Haha, doubtful.

Not sporty enough. ;)

I have the bread truck shirt... It looks like an International Harvester Metro to me.

Looks like a Metro to me, as well. I-H Metros would have been fairly common and cheap in the 1970s. The Delica came to the States in the 1980s, and were known simply as "vans" and "wagons" here. I highly doubt the Delica is named after the Mitsubishi van.

I'm a little foggy on my Spyderco lore. I seem to remember the Delica being designed to fit a woman's hand. Therefore, it was a modified form of delicate, or some such thing.

I think the name was heavily influenced by the Mitsubishi van. It would have been a very popular van in Japan around the time Sal was developing the Delica and building relationships with the Japanese makers.

Hi SSR3,

Welcome to our forum.

I designed the Endura and Delica while on an airplane from Hawaii to Denver. I had not seen or heard of the Japanese Delica van and was surprised when I did see one in Japan, which was much later than the knife creation.

I wanted to use a manufactured name which was inspired by Honda's creation of the Acura.

Hi Rycen,

Thanx. That is funny. we find our name in use in many areas.

20 years ago when Steven Dick (editor, knife guy, writer, etc.) was traveling in Mexico and went to the Knife convention, He found that the best quality knife-maker put a small round hole in his fixed blades where our trademarked round hole would be. Steven asked the knife maker why he put the hole in the blade and the knife-maker said; "it was a sign of quality". Steven bought the knife and sent it to me.
