Which Itty Bitty?

If you could only have one of the tiny Spydercos, which would you choose and why? Let's define "tiny" as 2" blade and under. I've been eyeballing all the ones I listed. Maybe for a fifth pocket carry, or maybe just to have a little one in the collection.

K390 Ladybug is awesome, but so are any of the serrated Ladybugs.

In general, Ladybugs are better than Manbugs.

I asked a really similar question recently and the collective mind suggested either the K390 ladybug or the serrated ladybug Salt. I went with the K390 and so far cannot recommended it enough.

I have a zdp-189 LB and of course love it. Just missed out on a K390 LB. But, a Hawkbill Salt LB is a nice companion as well. My wife loves hers.

Tough choice all around. Picked manbug k390. I really like zdp189 and the razor edge it holds for so long. Also does not stain or patina as easy as k390. Problem is, it is discontinued. K390 is a great steel, though, and the edge is easier to touch up than zdp. The blade shape of the manbug and the slightly larger size overall makes it my preference for sole knife choice in this poll.

Serrated Ladybug Salt because it will not rust or corrode in my pocket and cuts like a chainsaw.

I love K390, and I love the Ladybug, but I answered ZDP Manbug.

The man bug is a bit more comfortable for me (having larger mitts).

ZDP-189 is a very unique steel, and I quite like it. It holds a very fine edge for a very long time. It's usually used in high-end Japanese culinary knives, but I think it's a perfect fit for an "itty bitty" like this.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Ladybug K390

First, the Ladybug because the blade is pointier. Pointy is good on a tiny knife that might see emergency use for digging out splinters and performing other minor surgery. Knifes of this size aren't as usable as something more sensibly sized, but they'll fit your wardrobe when the goal is minimalism.

Mine is in K390, and aside from profiling the blade to my liking, I've not sharpened it since. I expect that if the blade was bigger and saw heavier use, sharpening would be more frequent. If price is an issue, I wouldn't hesitate to get this in the plain vanilla VG10.

If I could only have one, it would be my g10 Jester sprint. This has a paracord fob on it and sees pocket carry in restrictive areas.

I’ve carried the Manbug Salt on my keys for ~3yrs since they first dropped as a rescue blade that sees occasional utility use. Just got a k390 Ladybug as well. Might switch this to my keys knife and make a fob for the Manbug and just keep it in the change drawer in my car full time.

Also have a coated Manbug Wharncliffe on pre-order. It’s place in the rotation is tbd.

Whatever it is, SE is a must.
My favorite is the Micro Dyad.

But, the Jester was what showed me the power of SE on a tiny blade.

If you can find one, a Jester SE may very well change your life. ;) :D

I really love my Roadie. That's my 5th pocket carry blade.

Most of you that know me and my usage of Spyderco's great knives do know that I'm not all that fond of the smaller units. Probably the smallest model I ever EDCed was my Burgundy, ZDP-189 Caly Jr. model. I liked that one because you could get that ZDP-189 blade sharper than a witch's tongue.

Now there is one of the "micro-Spyders that I did like the looks of>> and that was the old Jester model. I had two of the Burgundy, Micarta handled Jesters at one time and they were really nice looking. I also always liked the blade design of the Jester better than I ever liked a Ladybug model.

I voted "OTHER" for that reason. It's doubtful I'll ever own another Micro-sized Spyder. My work simply demands the use of bigger blades.

Jester, and specifically this burgundy Micarta Jester that's been keeping my keys company for nearly 18 years...
