This new, high performance alloy, developed by steel metallurgist Larrin Thomas in collaboration with Crucible Steel and Niagara Specialty Metals, is now available in limited quantities. It is designed to have a balance of toughness, wear resistance and stainless performance, superior to any cutlery steel to date. Tests appear to bear out the claims.

Spyderco is known for experimenting with new, high performance steels, especially from Crucible. If Spyderco was to make knives in this steel, I for one would be very interested in purchase. I already have Manix models in S110 and Maxamet .... Military models in CPM 440V and CPM 90V ... And a Spyderco Manfly in ZDP189.
According to the article, CPM MagnaCut Steel outperforms the above steels in all categories.

I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for the first Spyderco to employ CPM MagnaCut. I'd be tickled pink if the Manix XL was chosen 'cause that's my favorite model. But I'd spring for a regular Manix as well.
