Spydie Collection Satisfaction Survey
I'm pretty satisfied with my little group but definitely looking forward to the next Reveal. Have y'all achieved Spydie Nirvana or is it the Neverending Story?

I could quit right now with my Caribbean and be done for life but there are always new exciting designs and steel coming.

I am at the point now where I am selling knives that I don’t use. I still look forward to new models or new sprints/exclusives but I have definitely slowed down on my purchases. I know everyone has there own opinion (and there is no wrong opinion) but for me I believe in using my knives, even my sprint runs/exclusives. There are no “safe queens” in my collection.

Re: Spydie Collection Satisfaction Survey
Am happy currently but always wanting more as my tastes shift around and recycle. Although I have been saying I just need one or two more Native 5s to be 100% satisfied with my collection of that model and will never buy another one for a while now. Up to nine now.

If they made made me a CE Sheepfoot Caribbean with Peal-Ply Carbon Fiber scales with the same groove pattern I would be done. I would buy 10 for the rest of my life!

Looking forward to new designs. Larger handle forward, no 50/50 choil, no hump, thinner & slicey.

Re: Spydie Collection Satisfaction Survey
I’m waiting for g10 natives to come back in stock to do some blade swapping, and of course the smallfly 2. but otherwise I’m pretty much good I think.
I’ve handled or experienced almost every corner of the lineup, and my current collection seems to be my personal sweet spot. I’m always on the lookout for more readily available tool steels and new interesting designs though. I’ve also had more trouble than usual reselling recently so that discourages me from just “trying out” a random new model a bit.
Edit: ooh and once magnacut comes around I’m snatching it up in an instant.

Yeah those would be pretty amazing scales. I would mind if they did away with the flat oval with more grooves.

Re: Spydie Collection Satisfaction Survey
Mules are my mainstay now with a few others thrown in.
Like I had to pre-order the cru-carta PM2, like I had to get a Native 5 maxamet factory second.
Coming from a guy that has 3 pacific salts 1s in the boat with 4 spare.
(Usually 2 in the boat but found one I had lost in a chair post hole that had been capped for over a year)

Re: Spydie Collection Satisfaction Survey
I didn't think it would happen this quickly (4 years) but I do feel like I've pretty much achieved my Nirvana for Spydercos. I've got various models, sizes, locking mechanisms, steels, and handle materials. I haven't bought a new Spyderco in 5 months now and believe this could be the reason why. My last 5 purchases have all been "others"
Not that this is a bad thing, Spyderco is still by far my favorite brand! They just haven't released anything that's totally new and different to me lately that's all. I don't really care for a different colored G10 scale on a model I likely already have 2-4 of, likely in the same steel as another knife I already have.
I'm honestly glad I've eased in that addiction and feeling like I have to have every new exclusive/sprint run. That's just craziness.

Re: Spydie Collection Satisfaction Survey
My accumulation has definitely slowed down the last two or three years. I’ve been a net seller for a while now rather than frantically trying to get the latest models / steels / colours ... I’m down to around 80 Spydies.
My Spyderco preference is for the Japanese made models. Given the prohibitive cost of non FRN knives made in Japan, I doubt we’ll see any more and I have enough of the core Japanese ranges to last a few lifetimes particularly as, these days, I view FRN handled knives as specialist tools rather than EDC knives. If I know I’m going to be cutting in wet, dirty or cold, I’ll grab a suitable FRN handled knife for the task, otherwise I’ve mostly carrying pocket jewellery that happens to be able to cut stuff.
It’s going to need to be something really special that is going to make me sit up and think “I need one of those, where is my credit card?” In the interim I’m very happy to enjoy what I have and sit back and watch the goings on with new models, sold out sprints, flippers, etc. It’s peaceful. My purchases of other brands have also slowed down to a trickle, recently two Bugouts ... prior to that was possibly the Watu I won in the calendar competition.
Seeing I’m probably the only person that is going to vote “nope, I’m done” I thought it may need some explanation.

Re: Spydie Collection Satisfaction Survey
I've built up a small but diverse collection of models, steels, locking mechanisms, countries of origin, etc numbering 15 Spydercos in 12 different steels. Bulk collecting for me is over, but I still usually have one or two models that I'm looking for as special pieces. I've sold I think 2 or 3 Spydercos to make room for others or just because I didn't love the models. Nothing on the horizon has me too excited as far as new releases, and I'm just not a PM2/Para 3 or Shaman guy so the mainstream stuff means little to me.

Re: Spydie Collection Satisfaction Survey
Happy with what I have, but also happy to see new designs and sprints, less so cash-cow exclusives that now seem to suffocate production of new designs. No place in the queue...
With this apparent suffocation, I’ve been pursuing older Spydies, not least ones preceding my join-date. I have just scored a step-milled titanium Chap and a Raffir Noble one that I had earlier ruled out in favor of other models.
This pursuit of older Spydies has given me unexpected joy, partly because I like the needed research and unavoidable hunt, and partly because I like experiencing Sal’s, Eric’s and collaborators’ earlier thinking. This experience has given me new appreciation of current models and trends.
For example, I bought a Southard Folder when it dropped and regretted it almost immediately. Why buy a flipper if you’ve got the Spydiehole? Seemed disloyal, (even though “implied” it was OK...). What I failed to see before I sold the thing was the value of the flipper tab as a finger-guard in handle-forward designs.
That alone now makes Eric’s Mantras much more interesting to me. The Lil’Temp (I have a 3), not to forget my Caribbean and surprising Rock Jumper, have shown me handle-forward’s real-estate advantages. I suspect my inbound D’Allara3 will do the same.

Re: Spydie Collection Satisfaction Survey
I have reached the point where I have a really good idea what I like and what works for me. In retrospect I could have stopped years ago when I mainly carried my Super Blue Delica and Cruwear Military but that doesn’t sound like much fun.
I have slowed down but I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon.
I am in the same place with hunting and camping knives but it doesn’t seem to have stopped me from directing my discretionary spending that way either.

I have the Lil Native, so my knife needs are pretty much satisfied.
That said though, my fascination with design is what really kicked off my Spyderco obsession, so I will always look forward to the new models and designs they choose to produce.

Re: Spydie Collection Satisfaction Survey
At this point I'm pretty happy with the pile-O-knives I have. There's a couple more I'd like to add but I'm holding off. I have way more knives than I could possibly use and not buying more allows me to spend more on my other hobbies
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!
