Bugout pack suggestions

Post by Eliteone2383 »

Which spyderco would be best for a bugout pack? Toughness and durability being the obvious criteria.

Thanks in advance

Pac Salt in LC200n. Won't rust, will survive whatever you throw at it, lightweight and grippy.

Fixed blade for the win!

Province!

It might need some rust preventative added if that concerns you.

Sal always suggests the Jumpmaster2 for bugout bags. I would say that or another fixed blade salt.

I'd buy two Pacific Salts, one on each edge type. Rust proof super tough steel, both edge types cover every possible scenario, they're relatively light and cheap, and as the saying goes "two is one, one is none" so having just one is not enough.

I agree with Darby. Whichever Spyderco you choose make it a fixed blade and I vote for the Province as well.

My bugout bags & car boxes have Moroknivs and SAKs. I'd love to have Jumpmasters, but that's a lot of $$ to be sitting in a closet for years, never to be used. If there is enough time, I will grab several of my Spydercos, of course.

I chose a Tops fixed blade. Figured I would already have a spyderco in my pocket...

It would probably be helpful to know what situation you're planning to bug out from. Ice storms, floods, tornados, my wife's dinner parties.

If you're asking what Spyderco will help you survive the end of the world, pack whatever you want. Bug out bags are loot boxes for more experienced people. Surprise them. :)

My 12yr old nephew taught me this while playing Fortnite with him. He told me to collect good gear so when I die he has extras. OOF. That was a life lesson.

This sums it up nicely.

More background info would be required to give good advice for specific scenarios.

In general, I think the advice to pack something cheap like a Mora is a good idea. The bugout bag is for a very specific scenario where you need to leave the safety of your home on very short notice. Unless you live in an area plagued with hurricanes, earthquakes or similar, you are likely to never need it.
So unless any of the above applies, pack a cheap “better than nothing” knife, and instead plan to take something suitable from your collection if there is time to spare.

I don’t see the point of putting a folder in my bag since I always have one on me. I also had a Mora in my bag for quite a while for all the reasons already mentioned. Since I hoard knives I have extras and eventually put something else in there. Right now it is an Ontario Blackbird SK5. Mainly just because I never use it and it is a stainless steel survival knife. Before that I had my Temperance2 in there but at one point swapped it with the SK5 because I wanted to actually use the Temperance2 instead of packing it away somewhere to probably never get used.
