Para 3 LW in BD1N - awesome finish

#1

Post by Matus »

As already mentioned - I decided to get a Para 3 in BD1N as it the cheapest way to try out the lightweight version. The knife arrived today and I like it a lot. What I did not expect was the incredibly smooth and superbly done finish of the blade. I am not even sure what to call it. It looks like the blade was first brought to a near mirror finish and then washed with some gentle abrasive medium.

Frankly - this is what I would want to call a satin finish - it is just so delicate and very pleasant to touch. I have had briefly the Native 5 in Maxamet - that was still nice but not anywhere close to the o this one.

I am actually wondering, as the photos I found online show s belt-like finish. I wondering whether there was a change to the finishing process throughout since the production started.

Anyhow - here are a few quick photos. For comparison I also show my beloved Brouwer (knife I like a lot and wish it had the same kind of finish)

BD1 and BDN1 both take a very attractive finish. It almost has a depth to it, perhaps chatoyance is better descriptor?

I have a Manix 2 LW in BD1N, and it has the same finish - I agree, it's very nice. :)

Yeah that's what I was going to say. My Manix I would say seems "polished".

I can’t compare, but yes, because the finish is near polished, it shows fingerprints easily
