Interesting discussion on a bleeding blade

Postby Rinzler » Tue Apr 13, 2021 7:32 pm

Link: https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/My ... -2443699/? There’s a guy who bought a seconds knife that bleeds all over his food apparently. It’s quite the interesting discussion but be warned that 95% of what you read might be nonsense or foul language.

Yea, that was painful to read. Yikes! Safe to say I'd stop food prep with that knife though. That's a great cheese for not being some super fancy stuff too :)

Wow. Some stellar minds over there.

Interesting phenomenon, though. I wonder if it is some cross contamination with some other type of material.

Judging by the comments here I think I'll spare myself from clicking that link lol.

I've had non stainless blades do this, they especially leave a funk on fruit.

Well thanks for that. My IQ dropped below 70 from reading the first page in that page. Holy crap!

I've seen that happen with carbon steel blades. Also not going read the thread.

I've had it happen with a carbon blade that was treated with mineral oil. I think it picked up something from the sheath (or just from the environment--like dust) and then it came off with some of the oil onto the thing I was cutting.

I have an account on that forum, but I admit I haven't been over there in a long time, and I don't miss it.

I had that happen using my digi cam Strider SnG (S30V) to cut cheese during lunch break at a concealed carry class. Washed the blade off before using it, but I figure it must have picked up some accumulated dust/dirt every time I closed the knife.

No one really seemed interested in solving the question of why that was happening. So much talking past each other and posturing. I've been to worse places but I've never stayed.

When does the conversation get interesting? I read through the first page, and then gave up.

I did learn a little though. I understand a bit better now about why mods are needed on forums. Sheesh.

Funny quote "Many so called "knife guys" will only use their knives to open boxes which contain new knives, and food. Anything else they'll grab a box cutter for, because they don't want to hurt their pocket jewelry." Says the guy who probably uses his custom made AR15 with surefire laser/light combo, equiped with a schmidt &Bender scope to punch holes in paper or empty soda cans with his custom batch of Lapua .338 ammunition. But shiny footprints so everyone is entitled to his opinion on what is important in their life.
