3d printed clear Chaparral scales

#1

Post by Josh Crutchley »

This is just a test.... beeeeeeppppp :p. No really just test fitting to find anything I missed. I did forget the wire clip cutout. The depth of the liner in the scale needs adjustment. This is straight off the printer. I figured to start with the Chap since one of its purposes is showcasing different scale materials.

Very brittle almost like plexiglass.

I have the Anycubic Photon Zero, it was the cheapest available at the time ~230usd. The resin is also Anycubic translucent blue.

I haven't really used it like this yet. When I get both final scales done I can let ya know. It felt good with one on if that means much.

With both scales mounted the lockup felt the same as FRN. I think the liners hold most of the tolerances for you. I am having an issue with the very thin scale sections along the backspacer and lockbar. The border around the liner is less than 1mm thick and seems to stick to the print bed causing layer adhesion problems. They also need to be sanded to take out any imperfections.

That is interesting. If you did a Salt model you could have a perfectly clear knife except for the blade and thin lock bar.

That's a great idea. Everyone keeps giving me reasons to buy more knives. I love it! :D

It's like a Raffir Noble Chap where they forgot to add the wire screens to the resin.

I know I said it was brittle but that was an assumption based on the gray resin. I just tested a few of my test prints and they are all flexible but will eventually snap. It's not really comparable to plexiglass like I initally said.

Very nice!! :)

Did you keep the handle as thin as it is from the factory or made it more handfilling?
For me the Chap certainly is the best user Spyderco has among their small knives due to its thin, slicey blade, and as much as I like its thin handle (and think it still has great ergos): For prolongued use (and this is where the Chap blade would shine) a fatter handle would not hurt!
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)
