Missing my Manix Salt

#1

Post by Ez556 »

I am out riding my mountain bike and I normally have my Pacific Salt clipped inside the waistband of my athletic pants but it’s currently out on loan so I had to grab my Manix LW to take its place. This made me remember... wheres my Manix Salt?? Bring on the translucent yellow/green scales and LC200N! :D

the manix lw is my favorite knife, but the only way i'll buy another is if they change the pins out for screws or make it a salt. i'd love to see both happen. :)

A manix in LC200N is probably my ideal one and done knife. I don't think I'd ever NEED another knife. I'd still buy more, though.

Slap some actual screws in the thing and I’m all in. Love the model, don’t love the inability to service or tune it.
Lightly insane.

I am thinking the Rockjumper and Leafjumper (I hope they change that name) will replace my Manix 2 LW. I am going to order one and see.

Maybe we will see it once the MagnaCut steel models come out? Larrin says it has well above average corrosion resistance. The spring is the only place where I can see an issue, everything else can be made from non-rusting materials. Stainless springs may not be rust resistant enough to fall under the Salt moniker, however.

i agree with you about the spring. that's really the only part that would be a problem area. personally, i'd accept a manix salt(ish). i mean, you can find a pen on the ground that's been outside for a long time and it's not usually very rusty. make the blade and the metal handle inserts out of lc200n, replace the ball bearing with ceramic (or it could be lc200n too), and then just use the same springs they already use. i wouldn't mind having to rinse my knife out and making sure the spring dries. it's not that difficult a thing to do. also, if they made it with screws, the spring is a really easy part to replace from any clicky pen, so it wouldn't even be a big deal if it developed a little bit of rust over a long period. i suppose that wouldn't be an easy thing to market though.

I think Spyderco might release it as some thing other than a Salt, but still 99% Salt-like. Just a guess.

I'm with you. LC200n Manix is as close to my perfect knife as I can see happening.

There’s gotta be some way to make a salt-worthy spring. The Autonomy has a coil spring (though it is a torsion spring), as does the Tusk which has a coil spring in the BBL for the marlin spike. Both of those are considered salt knives to the best of my knowledge.

Would a Manix 2 Backlock Salt in LC200N and Toxic Green g10 work?

Thank you, I had forgotten all about those models. So, it seems it is possible, now to get Spyderco interested in making it happen!

i've mentioned the tusk in past threads about a manix salt. it's obviously doable. a m2lw salt with a ceramic or lc200n ball bearing, lc200n "liners" (because there is a small, metal insert in the m2lw), and, for the love of all that is holy, screws, would be a perfect knife for me. i'd have one in se and in pe. and since frcp apparently doesn't take dye well, i would hope that it would be a fairly neutral color and/or also offered in all black (with dlc).
