Washing machine!

#1

Post by atv223 »

I can't be the only one that has let a Spyie go through the washing machine in their pants.

I'm embarrassed to say it's happened so many times, I can't remember all of them that went through. I do know my McBee has gone through at least 2 or 3 times. The majority of my knives are Salt series or at least stainless.

Most recently, my Lil' Native Rex 45 got the treatment! I thought for sure it was going to be rusted or something. To my surprise and delight, it was no worse for wear. I don't know if it was the organic mild laundry detergent my wife buys or the fact many months ago I put some mineral oil on the blade.

Does anyone else have washing machine stories? Good or bad?

Not a knife but my Lynch prybar goes through the wash a fair bit. Always forget it’s there it’s so light.
Put a work shirt on a few weeks ago and it was already to go, clipped in place.....

I have put mine through the washer and dryer. They look great and whatever lint is in the pivot comes out dry and easy to remove. I've only done it with FRN models though and they were in jeans pockets each time.

I've done it many times on accident with no ill effect. I've even run my H1 Salt knives through the dishwasher with no issues a few times on purpose. My new dishwasher gets insanely hot though so I don't run them in there anymore.

Same for me! My Lynch prybars often get that extra tumble in my pants pockets ;) :).

i think my pacific salt is the only one that went through the wash. when i got it out, i never even checked to see if it was okay. i just put it in my pocket and kept going. you never have to worry about a pacific salt.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

My Fallkniven LTC has been through the wash. No Spydies yet, though. :)

I washed my flashlight once. I think a dish washer can be more damaging than a washing machine.

My ZDP Caly 3 came out sparkling clean, and surprisingly, rust free.

I'm guessing that the laundry detergent isn't to bad for the health of materials if you compare with a washing machine as Kobold says. I think that clothes are more sensitive than porcelain so if the clothes can make, it a knife made out of steel and hard wearing plastics is probably safe.

With that said, I've only ever washed a small flashlight!

I had a Cricket SS go through a washing machine. It lost about 1mm of tip, but the everything else ended up fine.

I’m fairly certain a knife has gone through the wash, but to no harm. What sucks is when you send your Surefire E1L through the wash. The bezel and end cap anodizing took a beating but after disassembly and drying out the light it works fine. I was surprised that it got water inside, but I guess it’s only rated IPX7 rather than IP69K.

Washed my (now lost) SS Jester to no ill effect, but I cringe at the thought of running my 52100 PPCFs through it.
