That Spyder Hole ... What's it good for??????

#1

Post by cycleguy »

Besides the obvious of deploying and retracting the blade, what other uses have you found the Spyder Hole to be useful for?

I've seen pics where it is used as a means to hang a knife in a convenient location. Last night and today I found the sharp edges will work a fire steel and can file finger nails (although maybe not its best use :D . Yes, I have some time too fill.).

What uses are you all finding for that Spyde Hole? :)

An existential thing, makes the knife lighter weight for backpacking and hiking or just walking around. I mostly use my knife for cutting in non emergency situations.

I'm pretty sure someone somewhere has hung Spyderco knives as Christmas ornaments using the Spydiehole as an attachment point.

I have a habit of putting my thumb on the flat/side of the blade much more often than on the ramp.
The Spydiehole and the hump most Spydercos have to acommodate it simply offer more area on the blade for the thumb, and I honestly really like that. And since width in the pocket does not matter at all to me, the Spydie hole is a total win/win-thing for me.
Of course also due to its general advantages (better way of opening, no thumb studs protruding that can get in the way when cutting and so on)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Also my little nieces and other kids (and sometimes even ladies..) like when I compare particular Spydies to animals just by the looks (not KIDding! ;) ): So the Native looks a bit like a shark, while the Endura does look more like a reptile or bird of prey. The Stretch a bit like a duck, and when it is closed like a sleeping duck with the head tucked partly under a wing.... :p :)
