Unicorn Hunting - Wegner C49 w/ Fish?

#1

Post by AUXCOM »

Hello all,

I could swear there was a Wegner model ( not Mouse ) with the Christian Fish - I think it's called ICHTHYS ( no idea how to pronounce ) - I thought it was the model C49 w/ G10 Scales. I remember seeing it ( or something like it) in the past and have been trying to find a match for my Mouse. Can anyone confirm that this does indeed exist or am I mistaken? TIA

Could be wrong, but the only ones I've seen with the fish were Phil Boguszewski customs. I foolishly passed on one back in 2003.

Maybe this should go into Off Topic? There was no Spyderco like that.

Sal thank you for the reply. It must have been one of Wegner's Blade Tech branded models.

I did find this - the Wegner Blade Tech Pro Hunter with a Spyderco hole - explains my confusion https://www.arizonacustomknives.com/products/421099/

If I could diverge the topic a bit... assuming that Spyderco had a patent on the spydie hole, when did that expire? I’ve seen a small handful of non-Spyderco’s with the trademark spydie hole and it confuses me.

The patent expired more than 20 years ago, but it is still a registered trademark of Spyderco, Inc. Unfortunately, trademark enforcement is through lawyers and lawsuits, not cops and criminal courts.

Does BM pay royalties for using it on the Griptilian? I've always been curious about that.

Unless something has changed, I don't believe they do.

But, it's probably best not to get into it here. I can only imagine the resulting feu de benne...

It would appear to exist as I have one in my collection. I have attached a couple pics. Whether it was done as a trial run or very limited run I do not know. I have only seen one C49 thus marked, (this one). Enjoy.

That is possible. The next time I see him or talk to him I'll try to remember to ask. I was under the impressions that the church mice were gifts for folks in his church. It was a while ago.
