My Last 12 Months
My Last 12 Months
Took a break from the Forum these past several months and missed the recurring thread asking us to weigh in with our annual hauls, lastly for 2020.
Here’s what I acquired not for 2020, but during the COVID period, February 2020 to February 2021. Yes, excessive, even by my own standards, but for reasons I note below.
Two Sals and an Eric (hey, I’m here for Glesser designs), the rest are Glesser-inflected collaborations (see what I did there?).
The first two in the list are what I would have claimed if I restricted myself to the 2020 catalog. The remainder are what I collected during 2020 and—just so I could include a special one (hey, I’m showing off)—into January.
Upper Left
Sal’s SE Rock Hopper
Upper Right
Clinton Siren
Center Top to Bottom
Sal’s Civilian
Ayoob sprint (got it in January 2021)
Breeden Captain
Hennicke Ulize
Schempp Kris
Ansø Zulu
Eric’s Dodo sprint
Schempp Balance
In acquiring the center Spydies, I wanted weird blades, ones having strange edges, pronounced negative-angles, even both.
Much to discover here, as you might imagine. Having been here for nearly 10 years, I wanted out of the comfort zone of Spyderco’s standard models (of which I have a fair variety).
Encouraged to look at the “classics” and “unusual” by JD and others, you may be—as was I—in a frame of mind to take some chances. I hope this post shows what is still possible.

Nice post, thank you. I almost think this should be on the main page rather than in the Gallery. I think it would be pretty active over there.

I would agree. Welcome back, wrdwrght! Off to General Discussion, we go.

Nice selection. That Ulize is one of my favorites. It's a sleeper. How does something so large, so effectively disappear in a pocket?wrdwrght wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 1:37 pmTook a break from the Forum these past several months and missed the recurring thread asking us to weigh in with our annual hauls, lastly for 2020.

I'm jealous of that Kris! Someday.

Welcome back, glad you´re here again! :)
Impressive "pack" of Spydies, all very cool... If I could choose one, well...tough.
Would have to go back and forth the whole night between Ulize, Ayoob, Rock Jumper and Siren...

Very nice indeed. I'm into "special" blade shapes to a cerrain extend, too. You've got some handsome specimen there. Congrats!

you have a battle station, right? VERY cool, looking a bit like a science fiction postapocalyptic Stretch to me...

Re: My Last 12 Months
That's an awesome group of knives. If this is what you got in year I can't even imagine what you full collection looks like  . If that Dodo was blue I would be even more jealous.

Re: My Last 12 Months
For the gratifying welcomes/compliments, thank you, Connor, David, Darby, Gernot, JDW, Jim, Jon, Josh & Josh, Julia, Kristi, Micheal, Nick, Rick, Salty, SDG, and Spencer.
Sitting out all the Spydie love has proven more than my three-months’ lurking could stand, especially as these curiously varied Spydies became a pile.
ICYI, I took a time-out because the often interesting Off-Topic section sometimes led me to seethe at the its disagreeableness, and my resulting anger increasingly dripped into what I said in General Discussion.
No more. Goodbye Off-Topic.
Henceforth, I’ll engage the General Discussion naively, as an early-learner, not as supposed master of facts. Learning what is factual is where I’ve always found the fun...arguing ideologies not so much.
All to say, I may become tiresome from time to time.
