I occasionally do light trail maintenance at the local forest. Nothing major, mostly just clearing trails of small fallen trees (6 inches in diameter or less) after a windstorm (we get them a lot here).
When I want to do expedient/opportunistic trail maintenance while going on a trail run, I carry my Schempp Rock and a folding saw (a Silky Pocketboy 170 with large teeth), which are light & compact enough that I can fit them in my hydration carrier:
I use the Schempp Rock for clearing brush, delimbing dead/fallen trees, & chopping branches & saplings 2 inches in diameter or less (it is very much like a compact machete), and use the Pocketboy for bucking small trees and cutting through anything too large to reasonably chop through with the Schempp Rock. I used to include a small hatchet in my light trail maintenance kit, but I've found that between the Silky & the Schempp Rock, the hatchet becomes somewhat redundant.

Wow, that´s the Enzo Necker, right?!
Cool little knife! Many handle options (wood, Micarta..) and can be had with either a leather or Kydex sheath.
BUT: I still like the Chap a lot more...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):

I've literally been pairing a Ladybug with a Victorinox Classic for many years, they complement each other very well.
