I always get excited about more fixed blades!
Spyderco’s are some of the best out there in my opinion.

The smaller thinner etc was a one version called the Pug. Various profiles for different folk.

The one I made for you Sal, was my own Butterscotch G10, and 12C27 steel, 4mm thin at the spine, flat grind...Kydex sheath.

I chose the name Serval, a wild cat from Africa.

Here are some images:

I have claw scars on my right hand, from one that got too close.

Wow, that’s really neat!
I had a friend who’s father owned two Servals.
He had special permits to care for them. Incredibly agile and beautiful cats, but too aggressive for me to get close.

Speaking of critters’ knives, I just finished a lengthy post about another animal whose beak resembles Spyderco’s Reverse S blade shape in the Byrd forum. The ancient Terror birds: https://www.google.com/search?client=sa ... gws-wiz-hp

Back on track, the knife you described sounds super sweet and probably resembled the Serval’s color a bit with Butterscotch G10! Really cool choice in my opinion.
Thinner and smaller make the Serrata more nimble or lightweight just like the cat as well.

Glad to hear more about the design from the source and I’m excited to see where this goes.

So a K390 Perrin is possible! Great news! Although K390 and micarta sounds like a dream combination, I wonder if FRN would be better to keep costs down? Another consideration would be which color handle to use?

Sal, it was one of your posts from 2009 that convinced me to try the Perrin originally. Took a while to find the post, but here it is:

Hearing you describe a knife as too good to discontinue despite not being the biggest seller was all I needed to hear to be convinced to buy one.

Sounds good so far. Stuart, do you have an active website? The link on your FB page is dead.

I voted for the Enuff XL, but I could be happy with a smaller Serrata. I think 3.5-4" is nice for an EDC fixed blade or small camp knife. I love Micarta, but I'd be happy with FRN in order to keep costs down.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Oh man this is almost too good to be true! I think the FRN SB would be fine. I have two of the Micarta ones, and they're great - but after handling the FRN SB, I'd be just as happy to get another one of those. Perhaps the color could be blue like the other K390 knives, but I'd be happy with just a plain black FRN handle and K390 blade. The bigger question in my opinion is - can we get it uncoated? and then can we also get one in SE? Obviously, PE is my #1 preference, but I'd love a SE one too.

Re: K390 Street Beat, I think coated and FRN would be a good setup for that. I would buy it in any configuration though.

I really think that a Street Beat in K390 and Denim Micarta would be awesome. Spyderco could then follow suit with the Shaman, PM2 etc.

Not to go off topic but if Moki is willing to try K390 then a K390 Caly3.5 is a possibility.

When I lost my job in 2017, I cut costs all round, and the web page was the first to vanish.
I also found that I could spend more time with my family.

My health and other matters have slowed me down with most things.

Maybe some day I will get more public with what I am doing?
Thanks for the interest, folks!

I now work at a specialist steel supply and heat treating company, mostly Bohler and Uddeholm tool steels, including N690. :)
Even though I am paid less, I am happier.

It is not always about the money... :)

Wise words. I enjoyed my covid-19 related break from work in 2020 for similar reasons. Family is everything.

I'm a bit confused. The Spyderco Perrin is a folder. This thread is about a fixed blade to receive the K390 treatment. So which model should get it?

Sal, this proto by Stuart - would that be a Serrata? Unchanged (other than the steel change), or with any changed specs?

"Perrin's models" includes the Street Beat and Street Bowie, both fixed blades.

Yep, anytime I refer to a Perrin or Spyderco Perrin, I'm talking about the fixed blades, not the PPT folder that's not currently in production.
