Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
What about a slipjoint Sage?
Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
Small, thin sage is best sage.
Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
Makes sense to me.
The Boker Plus line has a few button locks that are made in Taiwan that are converted to auto openers after they're imported to the US. I'd like to see a button lock Sage that was set up so end users could drop in a standard size coil spring and convert it to an auto if it was legal in their jurisdiction.sal wrote: We have "Button Lock" planned , but capacity is an issue.
What other locks would you like to see on Sages?
sal
Other locks? CBBL, Axis, titanium integral comp lock like on the original A.T.R. (yes, Sal, you've told me this would be very expensive -I still want one).
Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
Since the Sage 5 lightweight is just the knife Sal is using to test the rex121 steel and not necessarily how it may come to market (like I had originally thought was the case), it seems less likely what I theorizing earlier will actually be the plan, but it’s fun to think about!
I do really admire the Sage design.
I wonder about collaborating with Snecx and his new Superlock?
I’ve no clue if that’s a possibility on the Sage, but a Stop-Lock or the other suggestions like a Slip joint (Slip-it?) and integral Compression Lock seem reasonable to me.

rex121 is the king of steel, but nature’s teeth have been cutting for hundreds of millions of years and counting
Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
Would love to see a sage with a Gavin and Grant Hawk lock of some sort.
I love how the chaparral has evolved to more than just a cool scales project, and the sage has evolved to more than just a lock showcase model.
The para 3 has gained a few fans - I know some of the cut testers were skeptical at first and have grown to like it

Yes, but the Sage 5 (LW) actually WOULD probably be a very good platform for trying different steels, right (not "only" for Sal, but generally)?
I mean that in the sense that I think the Sage 5 could be a knife many could "agree" on, it has the very popular comp. lock and choil, the blade is not too thick but also not really thin, the handle is designed so that it has the maximum amount of grip area to fit many hand sizes, it is not too heavy but pretty sturdy and the liners make custom scales an easy option, blade length is legal in many places...
.... And, yes, it is an absolutely admireable design... :) (my 2c)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I actually completely agree here.Wartstein wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 5:59 pmCl1ff wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 5:51 pmSince the Sage 5 lightweight is just the knife Sal is using to test the rex121 steel and not necessarily how it may come to market (like I had originally thought was the case), it seems less likely what I theorizing about earlier will actually be the plan, but it’s fun to think about!

The Sage is an agreeable knife, as you put it!
Thinking about it... Serrated Sage?

Wait for the new screw construction LW Caly...then decide...

LOL when you look for your mind (per your signature) see if you can find your sense of humor as well.
How many smiley faces do I need to amend my posts with?
Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
A bit off topic, but I think that one of the most important things you can do in a day is make someone smile !

Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
Sal, a bit off topic, but any plans to make Para 3/PM2 in button locks in the future?
It would make these knives ultimately ambidextrous, like the Smock...
I would understand opposition to this from everyone, but I think the BWL Ultra PM2 is one of the best versions of the PM2 ever...I just don't purchase it because it isn't an "official" Spyderco production model.
On topic, How about a Titanium Integral Frame lock?

Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
As much as I like the Sage 5 design, for me still Caly (especially 3.5 but also 3) over sage any day of the week.
But I still think the Sage 5 is the knife more people could agree on.

Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
I’ve known this for a while after lurking around this forum and seeing your posts, but we have pretty similar tastes. I can’t speak from experience on these models, but I do love a good back lock and extra blade length, so I’m lead to agree with you here as well!

Re: Sage 5 Lightweight Frenzy
Maybe something by Demko? I feel like the Triad lock is too closely tied up with Cold Steel for that to happen. The Scorpion or Shark lock would be cool.
