i guess i'm alone in thinking the manix 2 is the ultimate workhorse spyderco model and would benefit from such a configuration?

i vote for dlc and black linen micarta though instead of the satin and brown micarta of the new pm2.
You are not alone!
thanks. when i voted for the manix 2, there was only one vote. i was pretty shocked that i was the only one that had voted for it out of all the votes that had been placed. the manix 2 is such an underrated model.
I voted for the Vivi sized version :D

I think they would need to add liners to the Military to make it happen, but I'd be sooooo down!

Alternative vote: Compression Lock Military 2. :-)
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

the manix xl is great in hand, but i hate it in my pocket. i don't mind carrying a large knife, but i think the pocket clip was poorly placed on the xl and i find little benefit to the larger size. honestly, for me the 2 has the exact same ergonomics and almost all of the reach in a considerably smaller size. if i need a longer blade (i almost never do), i reach for my resilience, which carries much nicer than the manix xl in my pocket.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

I've given the standard Manix five or six different tries. OG mini manix, saber ground 154cm launch Manix 2, Manix 2 lightweights in various flavors etc. Never felt right in my hand. Like a pair of boots with the heel area of the upper cut out.

Jealous of those that jive with that model because its gotten something like 20x the sprints that XL has, and is available in standard or lightweight.

If I'm worried about pocket real estate, that's what the Police is great at. But As a taller guy my pockets are large enough for a Manix XL and a big phone with a thick rubber case, so I'm not too worried about that.

I chose Manix 2. I prefer the G10 model over LW, and only have one. So, no brainer.

Native 5 and Native Chief would also be top contenders, but as they only only come linerless, I don't think that is an option.

If it was the mythical Military 2, that one would be on top. I have three of the regular version, and getting another one of these is not a priority currently. But who knows...

I think the Manix 2 handle is just to small for you.
It fits just right in my L to XL hands, but rather tight. With bigger hands the hook at the end of the handle probably creates the issues that the smaller Para 3 does in my smaller hands.
What surprises me though: Doc seems to like the Manix 2, and as far as I know he has huge hands too. Perhaps he always uses the choil?!
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I'm with you all who want a Military because it lacks variety compared to others, but unfortunately I'm also extremely opposed to that option, due to the fact that it's for righties only. Unless the rumored Military 2 will be more ambi-friendly, I won't vote for anything Military because of its polarizing feature.

Para3 or Manix2 either way.

The Military is relatively easy and also pretty safe to operate left handed. Did you try?

I use my thumb on the lock and my index finger on the hole.

I have several times, even the milled Fluted Ti Military that a friend lent to me for more than a month. I find that the large pocket clip is very uncomfortable to hold, left handed and it creates weird hotspots on my fingers when I grip it. Really bad for most lefties like me.

Too bad because that Fluted Millie was one of the most beautiful knives I have ever seen and that friend was selling it almost brand new for less than $300 only.

I would love this as well. Prefer the leaf blade, but would buy with either.

I'd buy it. I love the UKPK. I really want one in Maxamet, but I'd get Cruwear for novelty. I really feel like the UKPK could do with a 'Chap' treatment, with a bunch of cool scales. That would make a sweet carry knife to take anywhere.

I know there have been quite a few people here that expressed their reasons why they don’t want another Para 3, but I love them so that got my vote. I’ve never actually had anything with micarta so I want to try it.

Well, I am one of those who explained why I prefer other models over the Para 3, but I still totally grant you one in Curcarta :) and I also think there should be one at one point and it would make sense!
Why? Imho the Para 3 is a bit polarizing but that does also mean that a lot of people DO like it, and those should get one and it would most likely sell well and be a success for Spyderco.

I´d just wish that for a change and for the not-so-huge-Para 3-fans other models (like the for me great Sage 5 LW) would get a chance also.

Sooner or later we will have a micarta Chaparral also.

I personally think the sage and chaparral would be excellent candidates for crucarta.

The chief would be more difficult as it has always been linerless, but the native 5 had full liners until a year or two ago, so there wouldn't need to be any additional engineering/design if they went that route as it's already been done.

I think I'd be most interested in a Stretch 2. It would likely be pricey, as Darby pointed out, but it is the model best suited to the configuration for my uses. I could also go for a Native 5 with full liners.

The Crucarta Shaman sure is nice, but its size and bulk often push it out of daily carry. It excels as a 'fixed-blade substitute' and for bumming around in the woods. For work days I usually prefer a slimmer carry.

This thread needed pics. :D

Tip up, backlock military. I guess it wouldn't be a military anymore, but I can dream...
