Cruwear Micarta PM2 Full liners

Is everyone as excited as I am to see the new full skeletonized liner construction for this model? Eric shows it off a little and talks about it in the knifecenter video. Specs list it at 0.1oz lighter too. I can’t wait to get one in hand. :spyder:

posted about it on the other reveal thread. Personally this is a new direction for PM2s, but some may not like it due to the added heft. I personally would like some heft to the PM2 especially for a beater/daily use knife.

EDIT: did not see the .1 oz less weight, which is surprising for full liners. very nice.

It'll be interesting to see if they implement a similar change in other models like the Yojimbo, Military and Para 3.

This model looks like a home run for Spyderco. I'll be first in line for a Military given the same treatment.

This reveal really shows how much Spyderco listens to its customers.

I'm game, and added it to my wishlist at Blade HQ. don't know that I'll love the added weight, but I'd love to handle some factory Micarta.

I fell in love with Micarta because of Chris Reeve and ESEE. I have a Micarta-scaled Para 3, and it'll look great next to this PM2.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

You'll have to beat me! Which you probably will. But I'll be second!

And I had the same thought. The OD Green and Brown Roadies seem to be a direct response to Doc Dan, and the Salt UKPK seems to be a direct response to another thread recently. Finally, the Straight Spine Stretch coming in K390 may be a direct response to the forum, or simply the great response to the Ivory model.

But man, Spyderco is great at listening and innovating.

Nice! Thanks for the pic. I didn’t see it in the other thread. And I’m with you in the added heft. Will be nice in a user. I bet it’s gonna feel like a cross between a PM2 and a GB2 :spyder:

Pre-ordered. Couldn't help myself.

Time will tell if my K390 blade will end up in those Micarta scales. And, I don't have to baby my other Cruwear PM2 anymore. Where is that oak branch I wanted to whittle...

I don't think there's any way it can be lighter or as light as the linerless G10 version. I'm thinking the spec is wrong, unless there's something I'm not realizing.

This is not good news to me. I understand the reasoning behind the decision by Spyderco but I certainly hope this is not a sign of things to come. Nested liners is a wonderful feature. One that actually sets the US made Spyderco knives apart from the rest of their line up and indeed, from other manufacturers.

Seems like reverse CQI to me. Hopefully it’s a one off.

It seems like, from what Eric is saying, the Micarta isn't as rigid as G10 is, so they probably had trouble milling out the recesses for nested liners without getting shredding or distortion in the material. Maybe something that the engineers or machinists can work on but maybe not. I would think it's possible considering there are aftermarket micarta scales available for the G10 PM2 which I'm assuming work with the nested liners.

I wonder if they could do a single liner design, with the non-lock side linerless? I'm not well versed on the strength of micarta vs G10.

In the video Eric says, that it's full-lingered because Canvas Micarta isn't so rigid as G10. So, I guess it won't change the whole Paramilitary 2 line

I don't have anything in K390 or Cruwear. And I like the back-lock on the SSS more than the compression lock on the PM2... but I prefer micarta and Golden quality over FRN and Seki quality.

Additionally, if there will be a Stretch XL in K390 and/or a Cruwear Millie, then I should just wait for those... OTOH, this PM2 with the polished liners is so handsome. It really looks a bit like a Bradley folder. But I already have two PMs. Hmm, I will have to sleep on it.

This opens the PM2 to a Pakkawood/other wood scale variants/Terotuf where the rigidity is not as strong as G-10, so it's not a big loss and probably won't eat up the standard G-10 PM2 market.

Terotuf would be great on some of these knives with liners as you said. This PM2, Shaman, Native (older S110V linered base). The Endura, Delica, Endela, Stretch bases from the Pakkawood and G10 models, etc. I really like Terotuf on my CPK fixed blades. Seems like a good opportunity for a dealer to do a "family" of Terotuf exclusives paired with something like K390, Z-Wear, or even dare I say CPM-3V (without getting chastised). ;)

I'm not sure about the weight. Spyderco's listing for the knife does list it as 0.1 oz lighter than the standard PM2 (3.8 vs 3.9 oz), but the Reveal listed it at 4.0 oz. Wonder which is correct.

Ooooff, good call there. Yeah, as much as I dislike the hype and extreme secondary market inflation prices of some dealer exclusives (REC cough cough), you're right, someday some dealer is going out with their version of a linered PM2 in scale materials other than G10 and FRN. In fact, I'm secretly betting that Knifecenter has plans of making a HAP40 PM2 Pakkawood dealer exclusive.

This release is comparable to Giantmouse's Ace Grand Micarta series. Love it when other scale materials are explored instead of sticking to G10.
