revival of UK Penknife FRN Rescue with LC200N?

#1

Post by mitchwalcott »

Would anyone like to see a revival of the UK Penknife FRN Rescue, but with LC200N? It would be a great knife to keep in the car and then take for a hike, as it is lighter weight than the other rescue knives.

Here is the original C94OR2 model:

Well, it could have its uses in the UK. I am all in for an LC200N Salt UKPK, not with the rescue blade, though, because it does nothing for me. However, a full Spyderedge Salt, would.

For my own selfish reasons I suggested something similar in the forum knife thread, but in Spy-27 and cobalt blue G10 to keep with the popular demand of the thread.

But honestly it’s primarily the blade shape I’m care about as long as everything else is sensible.

I find sheepsfoot and lambs foot blades practical for a lot of applications, and they are not very murdery, which actually can be an asset when laws are as indistinct as they are around here. The absence of a lock also makes it suitable for travel to other European countries, if travel ever becomes a thing again.

I'd certainly be interested in a lc200n UKPK.

Like with other LC200N models, I would want a full flat grind.

Yes. Count me in. Put a little G10 and a full length backspacer on there though.

The UKPK knife is pretty much the only Spyderco I can carry around in the UK that I like, so the less murdery the better.

I’d buy one if I could. My UKPK Rescue is a regular favorite in the rotation.

I’d prefer full flat grind. Plain edge or SE, I’d try to buy both if there was the option.

Now that Reveal 7 lists a C94SYL model, I may simply just go with that.

Can anyone tell me what the blade tension is like on the ukpk? What I mean is how much force to overcome the spring to get it to open.

Im interested in this ukpk salt. Some of my salts get carried in my boardshorts but only ones that I trust will stay closed.

So if the tension is anything like a traditional slipjoint or even like the native 5 salt then that would be great.

There's not a lot of tension to keep it closed, but it's not going to fly open I don't think. I've had manix's open in my pocket, but not a UKPK.

I was comparing the tension of my Native 5 to my Step-Dad’s UK Penknife this past Monday. I think the Native 5 has more tension, but I do not think the difference is that much. I would assume the UK Penknife will be safe in your pocket.

It's got a good self-close bias like any backlock. You should be fine.

I carried one for years with no issue having it open in the pocket. Both clipped and clipless. The opening tension is more like a lockback than a compression lock.
