Spydies all over Chicago PD
Spydies all over Chicago PD
I've been a Chicago PD fan for a long time. It didn't hurt when I saw most EVERY cop on the show - even the women - sporting Spyderco's. They use them fairly often, too, for all kinds of things. Has anyone else noticed this?
*Anybody who has anything to do with the show..I would love to know how that came about. My guess is that one of the producers, etc., is a huge fan, and gave each cast member one, maybe told them to "use their Spydie" when the script calls for a knife to be used. Kudos to Jason Beghe (Sgt. Voight) for using the Spydie the most often (diff. models, too, I believe). He's "convinced" people to confess; cut down a guy who had hung himself, in time to save him; all kinds of uses. :)
Anyone else have anything to say about the 'Spydie love' on C.P.D.?? I[/font]

As you may recall, I'm from the Chicago area too. I think I've watched Chicago PD &/or Chicago Fire maybe once or twice at most. Now that I know there might be Spydies involved I might have to tune in moreNaperville wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 10:23 pmI live near Chicago. Re: Spydies all over Chicago PD
Some of the people I used to work with are on live rescue. Most of the beach safety division have a salt series. You probably wont see the knife unless they show them freeing a sea turtle, but I know the beach safety division people all have a spyderco either on them or in their truck or in their bag etc.
I actually havent watched the show so I have no idea how much stuff gets cut out and how often they even show whats going on at the beach vs whatever the firefighters and paramedics are doing.
About 8 years ago when I was a beach lifeguard, and our lifeguard program was under a different department, I convinced my boss to buy spyderco salt series as part of our standard equipment. He is now the head of the new program and still puts in a government order for a salt series knife for all his guards every year. Needless to say the knives work.

Yes, I do recall that you are from Chicago. Let's hope the Blackhawks get rolling here soon! I'm bored to death. Have to keep looking at knives and disaster films to stay awake, hahahahaha.Sharp Guy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 10:43 pmAs you may recall, I'm from the Chicago area too. Got to live in Chicago for 3 months for work... even wandered down to Naperville for a week of training.
Thankfully never met Chicago PD my entire stay.

Re: Spydies all over Chicago PD
Don't think so, I believe Sal mentioned awhile ago how Spyderco has a lot of contracts with US police, I also remember him saying something about Australian Antarctic scientific bases, and I'm sure other government organizations use Spyderco products simply because they're reliable. So it's most likely not the producer, it's just what those cops usually carry as part of their equipment.Savage7 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 1:16 amMy guess is that one of the producers, etc., is a huge fan, and gave each cast member one, maybe told them to "use their Spydie" when the script calls for a knife to be used. I've seen a few Spydercos carried by Romanian officers, mostly Enduras. Spyderco is seen with very good eyes here in Eastern Europe, I have no doubt US institutions took interest in it, on top of Spyderco's marketing and active search to sell their products. Maybe someone from Spyderco will give you a more accurate take on Chicago PD specifically, if they have any info..

Re: Spydies all over Chicago PD
One of my best friends for many years is a Chicago police officer who became a quadriplegic while on duty. He is one heck of a character and God broke the mold after making him.
My brother was a Chicago cop for 27 years. I have several other relatives that are patrolmen, sargents, lieutenants, and even one who is a commander! One of my cousins, a Chicago police officer, was on Mayor Daley's body guard details.
Nonetheless, cops, like anyone in any field on any given day are a mixed bag. There are good ones, bad ones, and nutz! Your best bet is to have nothing to do with any of them if you can help it because you just do not know what they have to deal with and how their day is going.

I went to a Blackhawks season opener party last night in the town where I live in the DFW suburbs. Good party! Do you remember the Saturday Night Live skits on the Chicago Bears? The Bears were such a phenomena and Chicago culture was ripe for mocking.

Oh and by the way, I'm a Chicago Bears fan....just laying low during these "rebuilding decades." :D
Had my first minor heart attack in 2017 followed by open heart surgery for a new aortic valve and a 3-way bypass. I have changed my "Bears Game Day Tailgate Meals" to reflect this. I've gone from 3 full slabs of Portillo Ribs down to only one full slab!!! :p

There might be spydies all over Chicago PD, but Chicago PD isn’t all over the streaming services, apparently.
Any recommended ep’s/seasons if I want to give it a try on different platform?

Unfortunately there are some regional restrictions/licensing issues, so it seems I can only view through the distributor that has the local distribution rights here in Norway

Re: Spydies all over Chicago PD
Chicago is one of my favorite cities, and Chicago PD is one of my favorite shows, at least partially because it is based there. I love that Spydercos are often in the show. I've definitely noticed it, and even mentioned it before somewhere here on the forum.
Re: Spydies all over Chicago PD
I still quote those SNL skits often. My girl is pure bred Texan. I give here a hard time about her Texas speak and she gives me a hard time about my Chicago accent. She actually thought it was a Boston accent when we first met but I cleared that up quickNaperville wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 11:33 amDo you remember the Saturday Night Live skits on the Chicago Bears? I was fortunate, the far NW suburbs I'm from had a Portillos, Lou Malnatti's, and several other Chicago favorites nearby. I indulge every time I go home. There's a lot of people from the Chicago area in DFW and there's a big push to get a Portillos here. We have a Rosatti's pizza here in the town I'm living in but I stopped going there when new owners bought it and took down all the Chicago sports memorabilia. I voiced my displeasure when I noticed. The guy I spoke to said they were remodeling. I told him I won't be back. There's a whole group of Chicagoans in my town who weren't happy with their choice. I guess they didn't understand what they were buyingNaperville wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 11:39 amOh and by the way, I'm a Chicago Bears fan....just laying low during these "rebuilding decades." :D

I might just try a month or whatever is their shortest sign up option, just to see what it’s about. Probably won’t break the bank.

I still get emails from Lou Malnati's, and Portillos was great for an Italian beef. Great food options. On the other hand, I have to say 1) Potbelly's is not special 2) Au Cheval is overhyped 3) Chicagoans do terrible things to hot dogs.
