Re: Past Spyderco Collaborators You Would Like To See Again?
That's an interesting pick. Because when that Peter Herbst was in the main line up I always had people coming to me looking for either an ATS-55 version or VG-10 version. The one Titanium version was done in 440C.
It is kind of like the Howard Viele>> it was super popular back in the day but when it faded with time it never even got talked about again. But there was a time when the Peter Herbst model was highly sought after.
Re: Past Spyderco Collaborators You Would Like To See Again?
I'm kind of surprised that Bob Lum's name is not being mentioned much There was a time when any Bob Lum model would automatically go into my "gotta have" list. I still like carrying my C-46 Lum Tanto folder on special occasions.
One extremely obscure collaborator was D'Alton Holder>> he only did one model with Spyderco and that was the super short TOAD model. I always thought the TOAD was the ultimate cigar knife. But sadly you don't hear of those guys hardly at all anymore.

Re: Past Spyderco Collaborators You Would Like To See Again?
I missed the Bob Lum fixed blades, and I'd like to see a run of those again.
I'd also like to see more from Ankerson and Sanders. Do they have more fixed blades to offer us? Maybe a knife "like" the Province that isn't as tall, but is just as long?
Also waiting to see if the Repect from Sal is going to be updated.

Brian Lai did my favorite EDC, so I've gotta say him -- that Amalgam is entirely awesome :) Maybe this time something with a sheepsfoot profile, because sheepsfoot blades are neat and handy.

Ed Scott, designer of the two Impala models.
And Phil Wilson. Of course.
What about another go at those Wilson fillet knives that never saw production?

I would love to see another Run of the Bob Lum fixed blade Tanto in one of the Supersteels. That might even be a good one to do in SPY-27.Naperville wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 10:10 pmI missed the Bob Lum fixed blades, and I'd like to see a run of those again.

Two "IMPALA" models?? I'm a bit confused. Are you including the different variants of the original 2004 Spyderco model?Cambertree wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 3:25 amEd Scott, designer of the two Impala models.

The times I got to use an IMPALA model to skin a deer it was great to work with. I had one with the Guthook and it was one of the very few knives I ever tried out where the guthook really did work>> and it worked very well too.

Sorry JD, yeah I meant the two variant versions of the Impala, with and without guthook.JD Spydo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 6:19 amTwo "IMPALA" models?? I'm a bit confused. Are you including the different variants of the original 2004 Spyderco model?

I’m not a fan of blades with an integral guthook, as I find they act detrimentally to the balance and manoeuvrability of the knife for general tasks, in order to have a specialised function which is not used that much.
That’s interesting that you’ve tried it and found it effective.
I tend to use the Stretch as my hunting folder and keep a dedicated lightweight Mora guthook in my pack.
I’m kind of surprised that Spyderco doesn’t have more hunting specific models, given the huge size of the market for hunting gear in the US.
You clearly have excellent taste in knifemakers, my friend. :) :pskeeg11 wrote: Of Course. :p

IIRC Farid Mehr ended his partnership with Spyderco on a sour note...sad thing is that it was publicly seen on the bladeforums some years back. Kinda unfortunate because I really wanted to see a mini-K2.
Of course only one name that needs another collab either for a rehash or an update of a much hyped Spyderco knife... Slysz.

Ray Mears. I’ll be first in line. And after my most recent purchase, Dialex.

I would love to see an update to the Frank Centofante Vesuvius. I had a chance to use one with a comp lock and ATS34. It would be awesome to make it like a mini Kapara with a FFG and updated comp lock. The steel could use an upgrade also.
Re: Past Spyderco Collaborators You Would Like To See Again?
Frank Centofante's designs were a real milestone in Spyderco's ATS-34 era. My heart still aches from hearing the news that all the tooling for Centofante's C-50 model was destroyed. For years I was hoping for a comeback of that model.Joshcrutchley1 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 11:47 amI would love to see an update to the Frank Centofante Vesuvius. I wasn't personally a big fan of the Wayne Goddard collaborations. But they did have a lot of fans back then>> however you don't hear much said about those Goddard models anymore
Also during that time period Bob Terzuola's models were stealing the show at times.
