Isn't FRN higher in price than G10 if there is only like 10,000 pieces made ?
i think that's only for the first run. it costs a lot to make molds, but once they are made, i believe frn is cheaper long term.
Ok, and I guess exclusives that use just another color do not need a new mold to be made. Even then, I do not think of FRN as less premium than G10. It just seems to have different pros and cons (and people love G10, that must count in the perceived value)
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

yes. i personally have no issue with frn/frcp. i love the texturing spyderco uses to much that i got a squarehead lw just to play with like a worry stone. my only issue with a lw knife is the pins in my manix.

Sal has mentioned on this forum that the cost of FRN is high on the front end due to the making of the molds. Once they are made, they probably want to stick with the design for awhile to pay it back.

There is a recent Leaf Jumper thread where Sal said they were going straight to the mold and bypassing some of the initial design process. That seems to mean they are pretty confident that the design will be successful to invest like that on the front end.

BladeHQ has for now removed the upcoming Sage5 CPM-M4 Black DLC Blade with Mint FRN from their website. It's probably so that it does not cannibalize sales of the Satin model which is still in stock two weeks after they first went on sale.

So assuming that dealers cooperate and don't announce products early, I prefer the new reveal system. But with that being said, does that mean that Spyderco won't have a lineup announcement at SHOT this January? Or maybe they'll just do one big reveal a year? I'd be lying if I said that watching SHOT Show coverage wasn't one of the highlights of the new year for me.
From the November byte, with relevant emphasis added:

With this new process, there will not be a set schedule for digital Reveals. When a new product is in-house and ready to ship, we’ll announce it. Digital product Reveals will then be periodically consolidated into printed Reveals to supplement our annual catalog and support trade-show events. On occasion, we may also choose to showcase special new-product announcements in the printed Reveal format.

As for what might appear in SHOT Show videos, that's Eric's decision. If he gives a "sneak peek" of something, that would be cool. If the Internet then demands delivery of that product the following week, we're back to the same problem...

Stay safe,

Mike

No pictures but I bet it looks cool! However, the price of $235.00 (above MAP of $217.00) probably means that it’ll be around longer than most PM2s depending on how many were produced. Elmax is about the same as S45VN in toughness, edge retention and corrosion resistance. PM2 S45VN/G-10 is only $154.70! So, you’re paying about $80 extra for the Marbled CF scales.

Yeah, I think this was bad timing... Technically, I'm pretty sure, Fatcarbon is a type of marbled carbon fiber... And SMKW is kind of flooding the market with their M4 Fatcarbon PM2's priced at $199.

Would have been cool if they matched their Manix Exclusive and did 4V steel with Marbled Carbon Fiber scales.

I have the Marbled CF Manix. It's worth the money. I'm good on PM2's though.
