No date stamp on Manix LW: Normal?

#1

Post by The Meat man »

Hey all,

I just got another Manix LW in the mail - CPM S110V. (Couldn't resist that 30% G&R Tactical sale. )
The action is way tighter than my Maxamet Manix, but otherwise it looks great. The one thing that puzzles me is that, unlike my Maxamet Manix, there is no date stamp/etching visible anywhere on the tang of the blade.

Is this something that changed later on and my S110V Manix is just an older model? Or maybe they're all like that?

Thanks!
- Connor

That's interesting Connor. I just checked all my Manix's and each one has the date stamped.

My rex45 lightweight has one.

My maxamet lightweight and CS s90v dlc lightweight do not.

I'm definitely going to have to go review my Manii now and look. The Rex 45 in my pocket (not LW) definitely has the date stamp.

The HG s30v I just grabbed out of my backpack does not have any date stamp.

I have three and none of them have a date stamp. I’ve never seen one with the date stamp. I’d love to see a picture, not because I doubt, but because I’ve never seen it.

This is bizarre!! All of mine are/were from G10 models, but I wouldn't think there would be a difference in the stamp between G10/LW models. Hopefully Sal can chime in. Not that it really matters, but this is interesting.

I posted a photo. It's a little subtle but you can see the etching on the Maxamet knife, through the cutout for the ball bearing lock. The CPM S110V version is blank, though.
You can see the etching only when the blade is partially open.

Only my new SPY27 has it. The S110V, XHP, & BD1 do not. I'm guessing the translucent blue one that I gave to my friend doesn't have it either. It's about the same age as my black BD1 knife

Thanks. I missed that. I see it. I actually checked mine and none have it, even there. Odd that some would have it and some would not.

I like the idea of knives having a "born on..." date. That way, when we get rid of our boxes, we still know. Plus, we will know if someone has changed the boxes around if the dates don't match.

Never knew that they (sometimes) have that date stamp there!! Now thanks to your hint:
My Rex 45 LW does have one, my BD1N LW does not.

The date stamp location got moved within the last year or two, iirc. The older ones aren’t visible through the CBBL hole.

I’ll check my Manixes after work to estimate when the change happened.

Yes, a pic of the date stamp would be super indeed.

See The Meat Man's picture above. The blue one does not have it, but the gray Maxamet has it peeping through the lock button hole.

The date stamp in my old Manix is not visible without disassembly, but the blade is marked.

Thanks, I looked at the wrong part of the blade, didn't realize I had to look through the "hole" of the lock lever....

That must have been a real chore to drill out those pins!

The biggest problem is that the pins are spinning. Besides that it is not as bad :)
