lil native lightweight update? Para 3 tanto?

#1

Post by Stoney87 »

I was wondering if anyone knows if there has been any progress on the lil native lightweight, or if it’s still something that Spyderco is planning on doing? Frn scales and bd1n steel would be great at a slightly lighter price than the g10 s30v as well. Secondly, has there been any talk of a para 3 with a tanto style blade? I’m not sure if the pm2 went as well as they wanted or well enough to justify a para 3 version, just wondering. I know there a lot of costs to factor into making blade shapes and changes, while we are at it, what about a wharncliffe para 3? That could be gnarly. Thanks in advance for the replies. You all are usually a wealth of info.

I know a lot of people are expecting it to get the para 3 treatment, but has the lil native lightweight actually been announced? It wasn't in the reveal, but I'd love to get one!

I don’t think it was announced, but I’m pretty sure I recall a post where Sal responded to another forum member that “Erik is working on one.” Maybe just a prototype. I thought with the release of the para 3 lightweight they would be close on the lil native since it was the first confirmation they could do the compression lock without larger liners.

Isn't the purpose of a tanto to be stout for hard use? Hard for me to imagine that meshing with a small folder like the Para 3. Or is it a style thing?

They need to lengthen the blade of the Para 3 if a useful tanto design is to be achieved. The blade is already short as it is.

Fair enough, just wondering if there where any other blade shapes in the works. I still think a wharnie could be cool, not sure I’d rather have one that the current blade shape, just always fun to see the variety spyderco offers in their line up. Maybe I’m the only one who read about a potential lil native in frn or maybe it just wasn’t a worth while addition to the line up from spyderco. They do offer a good amount of small knives already.

That was me! I am also looking forward to the Lil' Native lightweight. I see it as an "American dragonfly" (maybe an "eaglefly" :D), something small and very light, easy to gift to anyone to show the value of carrying a pocket knife without being intrusive or intimidating. I wait to see it every reveal, I hope its in the next one! If they could hit a price point at or under $80 with BD1N steel, maybe $90 for a Salt version, that would awesome.

But in reality, there is nothing quite like a gun. And it has been said, "The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun".

Does that complexity decrease the simplicity? Not at all.

Ahh see I knew I wasn’t crazy! Lol. I feel like that price point is perfect for the knife in my opinion. Granted my opinion doesn’t know squat about how to price pocket knives but it seems like somewhere in the $80s would be a really fair value for it.

Para 3 Tanto wanted here! My work rules only allow me to carry a max blade length of 3". Can i carry bigger knives, yes but not worth my job and the headache if anything was to happen. The Para 3 is the perfect blade length, hence wanting the Tanto. I have the PM 2 Tantos coming in and other larger blades from the Seconds sale. Being I can carry those two days out of the week, I make do. Knife life!

Fully support a lil native lightweight!

Maybe in the January Reveal? I guess we will see soon enough what the next Reveal has to offer.

there's only one tanto for me and it's not a spyderco. i would like a lil native salt though! especially if it came in g10 with a comp lock.

I’ll get a Lil’Native salt no matter how they decide to make it, but a back lock would be strongly preferred.
They can save the compression lock for the mini Caribbean

I’ve heard some people have trouble with the comp lock on smaller models like the lil native. I haven’t tried it on the lil native yet but I have a native 5 and the back lock was never smooth or great feeling on the flip side my dragonfly 2 is great. Maybe I just got a dud? I would like to see more liner locks to. I know they aren’t hugely popular but I like them.
