Running out of Airs

#1

Post by di81ni »

The Bradley Air is very close to perfection to me. The thing that keeps it from perfection is the thin liner-lock, which became worn out on my first one resulting in blade play. This was after a lot of fidgeting, because I loved the thing so much. I bought a new one and had burlap micarta scales made for it. WOW. Edc perfection. Sadly I managed to loose it after about two years of daily carry. At this time the Air was already discontinued but still in stock at some places, so again I bought one. Wanted to have it rescaled, but instead of sending out the one with blade play, I sent the new one. It got lost in the mail .
I’ve managed to find two more NIB Airs on EBay. I’m sending the old one in to have some cool micarta scales made. So I will be set for a while, but I know they won’t last forever. And in all those years since the release of the Air, I haven’t found another knife with the same specific attributes.

How about another run of Airs, perhaps in K390 and micarta.
I would buy multiples and be set for life .

I would buy one, for sure.

Wait a moment! Since all fans of the Air which have posted so far are in Europe, Spyderco might consider to change the name of the knife a little bit and call the new version .... the Airopean :D

I've never handled one, but I think the Air is a awesome-looking little Spydie. I'd be interested in a new run depending on scale materials.

The GB Air is a fantastic pocket knife. I would grab at least 2-3 if they did a run.

Yes, please. I thought they were too small when they were available. Now I am a fan of all the "Lil" knives.

I wanted to love it but couldn’t. No clip and a weak detent ruined it for me. It seemed way to likely that it might open when carried loose in the bottom of a pocket.

Give us K390, green canvas micarta, a safe detent and a wire clip and I am all over it. :)

I understand your worry, but in years of carrying one loose in my front jeans pocket, I’ve never had it open once. I have the pivot pretty tight.
I’m all for a stronger detent though.

Maybe drilled steel liners would do the trick, also eliminating premature lock wear...

And yeah: bring back the Air. Or a similar Gayle Bradley gent’s design. I’m always agitating for a model with the bolster lock he’s used on some of his custom gents’ knives.

Here is the post I made on this about a month ago, and a return seems pretty popular!

While the micarta looks great, what I really want to see is a regular old R.I.L.

My only issues with it were the thin liner lock and the lightness(I know, air...).

I just want a bit more heft. Otherwise, it was a fantastic design.
