Military Tanto poll

I think the tanto PM2 is gorgeous, useful and cool but my hands are too for it. Is there merit to a full size tanto Millie?

The only thing I personally find a tanto useful for is scraping gaskets, and I have other less costly and more effective tools for that job.

I can envision a chisel grind full flat grind on one side to a nominal secondary bevel. This would keep the cardboard commandos happy :D able to still be “slicey dicey“ for box breakdown. Use of a tough steel like 4v for those who play rough with their knives would be important.

How about another Millie release in general? SPY-27 and S45VN seem like they would be a good fit.

Yeah, no real use for Tanto knives myself. I tried out several back in the 90's and one real nice Spyderco one in the 2000's and no good. I do like some sheepsfoot and other similar for some things but even then it's mostly just the ease of sharpening that attracts me.

Ease of sharpening cannot be overlooked for those in the field. You don’t often get the chance to bust out water stones and sharpen for an hour.

I realize trying to alter the Mona Lisa makes many clutch their pearls, but the Tanto PM2 sure sold out quick.

A Tanto Millie would not take anything away from the great OG Military, it would just be an option for collectors, knife nerds and those who could use the qualities of that blade shape in the real world.

I have no issue with it...but it wouldn't be a "must have" for me.

I can see it being very useful as a working knife for those concerned with tip damage, etc., but can't say that I personally would rush out to buy one.. I'm pretty indifferent to it honestly, so I vote for option 3.. :p

I would probably buy one just because it's a new Military but I would really prefer the regular model with a newer steel.

Just think of it as a pocket tactical Japanese sushi knife with my imagined one bevel chisel grind :D

Those fancy types could hollow grind the back side of a chisel grind for extra slicey dicey.

I think Tanto blades look great (and I own 2-3 knives with them), but in all practicality, they just aren't that good for a general use blade. And to me, a little weird to sharpen.

How about we just get a R.I.L. Lum Tanto, instead.

This is what I´d actually like in a Tanto Military: The stronger tip!
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I wouldn't be against it but it wouldn't be a must have. I'd have to see it before I made a decision. I do like the lum style tantos that spyderco makes but this would be a different animal altogether.

I carried both Benchmade and Emerson chisel grind tanto blade folders back in the 90's, which is how I know I have no use for a tanto apart from scraping gaskets. As for tip strength, I snapped a quarter inch off the tip of a Cold Steel Tanto back in the 80's punching a hole in 3/8" sheetrock. I don't find the tip of a tanto to be any stronger than the one on the Military.

This is why I brought up the use of a steel like 4V. The design begs for a tough steel.
