First SE Spy27 model will be....?
First SE Spy27 model will be....?
Enquiring minds want to know. :D
It likely won't replace my LC200N as a favorite but I'm excited to try it out, mostly because there really aren't any new steels coming out with SE.

Re: First SE Spy27 model will be....?
SE seems to do best with a tougher steel that’ll roll before it chips. Is that how Spy27 behaves? I haven’t handled anything made from it.
Re: First SE Spy27 model will be....?
I haven't tried the steel at all so I can't say for sure.

Good question, probably one of the 3 models it’s in.

My guess: para3 lightweight. But I hope the Manix lightweight comes out in SE, too.
IIRC, Sal has said that they do plan to release some spy27 models in SE.

Re: First SE Spy27 model will be....?
Has anyone yet tested "Spy27" extensively to see how it holds up with serrated blades? Looking at it on paper I would guess it's probably all right. But actually testing it with hard cutting jobs tells the whole story usually.
Years ago I was actually surprised when I discovered how good 440V ( S60V) performed in SE. It's still one of my top 3 favorites in SE. AUS-8 which is "AVERAGE" at best in PE does really good in SE blades.
I'm anxious to try SPY27 in an aggressive SE blade.

Re: First SE Spy27 model will be....?
It should perform similarly to serrated S35VN if the chemistry is anything to go by. I've had good experiences with Spyderco's serrated S35VN in a warehouse setting, having used a combo edge Native 5 Lightweight (before the switch to S30V) for a couple of years as my main work knife. Holds a working edge for a really long time (I used the serrated portion primarily for cutting heavy-duty synthetic rope & cordage, really tough, abrasive stuff that can wreak havoc on a blade). Although to be honest, I can't really tell the difference in practical performance between Spyderco's serrated S30V and serrated S35VN.

I plan to sharpen up the SPY27 native I got, since I have a 4 day weekend. Then the testing on the plain edge begins!

Re: First SE Spy27 model will be....?
My plan is to get the Para 3 version.
Re: First SE Spy27 model will be....?
Manix would be dope since we ain’t got a serrated option there. I already have a SE native.
Edit.... or maybe a SPY27 serrated stretch?’

My bet would be a Native but a SE Manix would be a really, really nice call.
Do right always. It will give you satisfaction in life.

Unless they either start shipping it to Japan and offering it in the Stretch or shipping it to Taiwan and offering it in either the Chaparral or the Sage 4 the Native 5LW I just got a few days back will probably remain my first and only Spyderco in SP27.

I'm really hoping for more edge length than a Native or Para 3.

Re: First SE Spy27 model will be....?
This!! :)
Though perhaps for a serrated edge the CTS BD1N might be even better suited than Spy27? Just a guess of course, but BD1N is amazing in PE already, first and foremost sharpens very easily to a high level and seems to work great already in at least one SE Spyderco kitchen knife model...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Re: First SE Spy27 model will be....?
I’m interested in SPY27 Native or possibly the Manix2 Lightweight.....not sure about the SE blade. Although I would imagine the Para3 might get the treatment first...for some reason.
