It's not really the money at all, I'm not trying to discount your guys input in any way, I asked for it because I value it. I was simply trying to articulate what I was seeing. I will take some more pics and post and contact the seller about returning it. Thanks everyone, I super appreciate it.

Thoughts?

I've had my P3's & P4's apart and know what they should look like, but I haven't ever broken down one of the Stainless steel models so I am curious what others think.

I'm in the same boat so take my post with a grain of salt.

I've seen G10 Police folders with the classic no choil handle shape in ATS55 but never VG10. I don't recall ever seeing a G10 Police 1 or 2 drilled for tip up carry.

A few things stood out to me in your photo:



Yellow: I've never seen the cut-out for the lockback spring terminate in a circle on any spyderco.

Orange: I've never seen a backspacer that doesn't fully envelope a body screw.

Green: I've never seen a lockbar mating surface cut out to that shape on any Spyderco lockback

At first I thought it might be a really late run Police 2 in VG10, but after seeing the insides I'm much more suspect.

I'm no expert on the Police 1 & 2 either way.

Thanks for the photos JMM and Vivi thanks for your comments. The inside of that knife is suspicious. I think it is likely a Chinese knockoff.

I just double checked, the VG-10 Carbon Fiber Police is single liner, just like the later G-10 models. That knife was not made by Spyderco, or cobbled together from parts of genuine Spyderco knives.

Hey JMM, You'll likely get much more feedback from others if you post clear close up photos of all the words on the blade like I mentioned. The big "tells" of a fake in this case is going to be the blade's markings and the clip and the "bug" on the clip. Not as many people will have ever seen inside of a fake, but your internal photo doesn't look right like vivi mentioned. I know you installed an aftermarket clip on it, but if you show us the clip it came with I am quite sure it will be pretty clearly not up to the standards of any factory spyderco clip. A lot of these "tells" take a keen eye and discernment from looking at hundreds or thousands of photos or videos or actual knives, but once you know what to look for and see the patterns in the secondary markets it becomes quite obvious.

The first question in the authentication process is: "Could this be genuine?" Since Spyderco never made that model, the answer is: "No, it couldn't." The second question would be: "Could it have been put together from genuine parts?" Since it has a mark side liner and Spyderco has never made a Police 2 with one, again the answer is: "No, it couldn't." The markings are wrong, the lock well on the blade is wrong, the hardware is wrong, but none of that really matters since the bottom line is: It's a fake. It may be a well made fake, and it may even be a great knife, but it is NOT a Spyderco knife.
