Who Wants a High Carbon Native?

#1

Post by toocool006 »

Hey y'all,

After carrying my Super Blue Caly 3 for some time, I think I have been bitten by the high carbon bug. For me, I love the sharpening experience, the toughness, and the natural patina. The only sadness is that although I love the Caly, right now the Native 5 is my perfect Spyderco - just can't beat that Golden backlock, and I find the ergos better for a wider variety of tasks than the Caly.

SO - I want me a high carbon Native!!! Who is with me? And any ideas for configurations (scales, grind, etc)?

If you're in the high carbon fan club, but would rather see one in a different model, please join in and let us hear about it. I'm mostly trying to beat the drum here (in tandem with the 52100 thread that's going strong) to get Sal's attention that there are lots of us carbon aficionados out there, and see what we can make happen ;)

I’ll take one of each in 52100 and SB. Keep the peel ply CF (CQI linerless) and sandwich the 52100 between some 410 stainless for something extra special.

I like my Native 5 LW with S90V blade. S90V has more than double the carbon of 52100. Even the base Native 5's S30V steel has nearly half again the carbon of 52100. So, Spyderco is already making the Native 5 with high carbon content blade steels.

If you just want a non-stainless carbon steel or high speed tool steel, you missed the REX 45 Natives that were sold earlier this year.

I like 52100. But would really like to see the Chief in 52100. Carbon fiber is fine with me, it will match my other blades in that steel.

I would buy one. I also like the idea of a 52100 Chief.

I'd be down. As cool as SB (or V-Toku) would be, I doubt we'll see a Japanese steel in the Native.

52100 would be nice. I also don't have any yet. As others have said, a 52100 Chief would be cool too.

Funny to see all the 52100 love, and that KW Manix exclusive sat around FOREVER at a pretty good price too! Would that just be a dislike of the Manix? That's one exclusive I have never understood why it sat around for so long. Such a great looking knife too!

Maybe that's why KW moved away from 52100 and went to the 204P models?

I'm yet to own a G10 Native, and I like many of these suggestions. KW has to know the Native is a hot seller.

I'd buy the KW grey 52100 combo. I love that Manix. I don't really care what steel it is, though--I just love the looks of it. If they ran the same grey/DLC (and DLC liners) in Rex 45, I bet it would be an instant sell out.

Oh my...you could break the internet with that one! First DLC Rex45 too!

Such a tough question for me. I have more of the native pattern than any other. Huge fan of it. But honestly not sure about a high carbon variant. I'm impulsive enough that given the option I probably would by it.
