If you can only have one Delica...

#1

Post by nerdlock »

It's not final yet, but I have been thinking and planning these past few months to give away my only user/beater VG-10 Delica to a newly-minted policeman friend of mine who has been my subordinate at work before leaving to train and join the force, so that he can use it as his everyday carry aside from his issued firearm since he does not have a knife on him.

While I really love the Delica, the Para 3 LW has mostly replaced its role in my EDC as my lightweight small-medium folder. On the other hand, I cannot bear not having a single Delica in my collection, as well as making it a part of my lightweight/FRN rotation when the need arises. So, in case I give away my beater Delica, what model/exclusive could you suggest as its replacement in my collection - or if you could only have one Delica, what configuration/steel would it be?

Only one Delica, that’s crazy talk...

You need the Delica in PE and SE and in at least 3 colours.

I find the KC exclusive with the Pakkawood scales to be the best looking Delica.

Bento Box Shop M390 would be my pick of all currently available Delica models.

It really is a fantastic knife!

Knifeworks may do another run of the CTS-204P Delicas. There are several nice exclusives out there, some even with Damascus blades. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. The Delica is my number one choice in a knife that size.

If I could only keep one Delica it would be the recent KW S90V version. This knife completely flew under the radar of a lot of folks but it is a really nice version with a great steel.

If only one, would prefer Seki FRN for the handles and whichever is most available among M390/20CV/204P.
And I am waiting for the lc200n salt 2.

I might not be on the same track as you guys and my pick might not be what you're looking for. But my ultimate favorite Delica model was the ZDP-189 version>> well actually come to think of it there were two of them with ZDP-189. But even that very first Delica from back around 2006-07 was just a little laser of an EDC folder with a ZDP-189 blade IMO.

Now the Delica is just too small for most of my daily uses and in the small blade sector I've always liked the Caly Jr. better than I ever did any of the Delica models. But when they gave the Delica a ZDP-189 blade it sure changed that model completely.

ZDP-189 or K390. Probably K390.

I have versions in Superblue and Cruwear so I’m set for now.

CruWear! CruWear is always the answer. Basically stainless in my experience.

Does that complexity decrease the simplicity? Not at all.

I’ve owned many a Delica, but the only one I’ve kept is the Cruwear version. And only because they’ve never done an Endura in Cruwear!

I only have one - hap40 wharnie.
My next - the k390 wharnie. I may cave and get the regular k390 before then...

Just think - one quick and easy way to narrow the choice down considerably is to go with the wharncliffe version
