I'm not opposed to an online sale happening again but I believe the normal seconds sale and Op-Focus seconds sale should take priority over it.
The online version of the sale removes inventory for customers who choose to travel to Colorado for the sale. Spyderco has to scrutinize each model to identify the "best" of the batch because customers aren't able to do that themselves while shopping online. Basically prioritizing the "best" seconds for the customers who don't really have to make much of a commitment other than to check their computers every couple hours for when they update inventory.
If it happens again, I would like to see it take place after both the normal seconds sale and Op-Focus seconds sale. The online seconds sale should be left with whatever inventory is available after those sales take place.
Just to clarify, we scrutinize each item in the Factory Seconds Sale regardless of how it's held. We also took special care in the preparation for last year's online sale to ensure that the products were fairly offered and didn't give priority to the online sale. We purposely thought about ensuring we had enough of the "best" of the inventory to make an in-person event worthwhile. The effort extended by those who attend in person is not lost on us.

There is nothing more important than this one day.
Thank you for the info, Kristi. I'm actually happy for those who were waiting for almost two years for the in-person seconds sale to happen again. I'm glad that I was able to participate in the first-ever, and maybe (but hopefully not so!) the last online seconds sale last year.
It was an impossibility - but Sal, Kristi and the rest of the Spydie crew made it happen, even if for a time only. Now whoever says that Sal doesn't listen to his customers doesn't know anything about how the good man operates his business trying to cater to everyone to the best of his abilities.
Thanks Sal and Kristi. Looking forward to pics to this years' seconds sale, I'm sure it must be fun!

Enjoy it. After talking to the outlet folks, I’m out. I don’t expect Spyderco to do anything beyond city or county ordinance (nor should they), but I don’t feel like being smooshed into the sfo showroom oven the same as in precovid days at this time. If it was a tent then that’s a different story, but no big deal though. See you all next year.
I got a plane ticket booked just in case I decide to go. Wanted to get those low rates locked in. Hopefully Spyderco will figure out a way to manage crowds so everybody isn't crammed in there like usual, maintaining at least some sort of distancing rules. At the very least, require proof of vaccination or negative test in the last 72 hours, as many events are doing.
I attended in 2014, 2016, and 2017, so it's been a while and I'd love to go again.
I was hoping for another online option but I also understand how it's special for those who attend in person and I think they do deserve something special for making the effort. If I could justify the 2000 mile trip I would.
