Just for fun. What configuration?

#1

Post by BLUETYPEII »

I always see posts about people wanting a knife with a different configuration of materials than it was released in.

So let’s have a little fun!

The question is: If you could pick any existing current production or discontinued Spyderco knife, what blade material and handle material would you choose.

Edit: I like vivi’s idea Let’s do one fixed blade one folder and DLC and or serrated it is an option as well. :D

Can I cheat and go with one folder, one fixed?

Folder - Police 4 Salt with LC200N blade, LC200N liners, and foliage green canvas micarta scales contoured on the edges.

Fixed - Street Beat with foliage green canvas micarta scales and K390 blade with DLC option. If I can modify the blade shape I'd like a dropped point, making it a modified wharncliffe shape similar to a Leek.

Those would be the ultimate EDC knives for me. Runner up is a Manix XL built like the Street Beat....DLC K390 and foliage green micarta.

- Spyderco Respect in 4V
- Spyderco Native Chief always made out of S90V -OR- K390....not a small sprint run
- Spyderco Street Bowie in 4V and "The Perrin" and Street Beat in 20CV -OR- K390
- Spyderco Stuart Ackerman Sustain just 1mm thicker...I am afraid it is going to snap
- Spyderco Fish Hunter SE with black handles and maybe an inch longer
- Spyderco Hundred Pacer and Military with back locks....same steels
- Spyderco Lum Tanto in 20CV -OR- K390

Assuming I can also choose edge type too?

Ulize, full on Salt variant FFG LC200N, in SE of course. Man what a knife that would be.
All SE all the time since 2017

All spydies in plain edge @ .010” with 3mm or under stock, and also available in SE.

Both folders and fixed blades.

Can’t pick just one!

Well... g10 Native Salt... actually everything salt would be nice, lc200n everything. :D

But as an actual answer, I’d love to see the sage 2 return in a fancy shmancy stainless. The new sage 1 went high end so I suppose s90v is the way to go.

Other than that I just want to see more stainless and tool steel options for standard models like the manix, para 3, native, etc. basically I’d want something from either camp widely available. Even if it’s on rotation, for example 3v or rex45 being produced in the winter, and s90v or 20cv being produced in the summer. I think just having more standard options would be nice.

And as a bonus wish (but only because it’s not out yet), I’d love to see the smallfly 2 get any sort of switch up. I’m absolutely snagging one on release but I’d love one in an interesting combo or two down the line. Something funky like jade g10 and xhp, or perhaps the salt treatment with a satin lc200n blade and blacked out hardware...?
Lightly insane.

Current spydie collection: Watu, Rhino, UKPK Salt G10 bladeswap, Yojimbo 2 Smooth G10 Cru-Wear, Manix lw “mystic” 20cv, SmallFly 2, Waterway, Ladybug k390, Caribbean
Current favorite steels: sg2/R2, lc200n/Z-FiNit, 3v

I want to try one of his knives but I've never seen one without a sharpening choil. Wonder if he could do a one off for me, I like everything else about his main designs.

I'd gladly pick up another Sage 2. I'd like to see it in SPY-27.

Flame anodized Fluted Titanium Military in AEB-L, or any of the tough steels out there, DLC coated, with a serrated edge.

Make the PE version high hollow grind.

Make behind the edge thickness as thin as the steel can take it.

Fixed blade: that custom Vanax Waterway Lance has, exactly how it is.

It’s hard deciding a folder because I wouldn’t necessarily carry the knife that I would enjoy configuring daily, so I’ll split it...
EDC folder: Transluscent white (clear) Manix LW with satin/stonewash Vanax SC blade.
Cool configuration: Denim Micarta Manix XL with DLC CruWear.
