G10 SPY27 Native?

#1

Post by blades&wrenches »

Has it been said or does anyone know if the Native 5 will be offered in a G10 SPY27 format? I’m sure I’ll end up with a LW regardless, but I like the liner less G10 configuration more. Also, are there any other G10 sprints/exclusives in the works?

I would love to see a G10 SPY27 Manix, I hope SPY27 makes it to the whole Golden line. It’s Spyderco’s own steel recipe, so it would only be fitting. I just hope the G10 models keep the dark blue scales like the FRN models.

Does that complexity decrease the simplicity? Not at all.

With so many models in-the-works and so many exclusives being negotiated, hard to say now.

Does that mean that for now you are reserving SPY27 exclusively for lightweight FRN designs? That would really sadden me....

If they launched a PM2 LW in SPY27, it would not be the worst thing ;)

The Spy27 LW model was my first native LW. I’d buy another Native LW for sure, and I’d certainly buy a G-10 Native in Spy27.

Just to tack on, understanding there is a very demanding workload for Spyderco, but a Spy27 lil native I couldn’t buy fast enough! I’m content patiently waiting.

I, for one, just want more G10 Natives. It’s a model that is overshadowed by others, but one of my favorites, and very underrated.

Nice to see you poking around here Tony!

Most of the time I prefer lightweight models... but there really is something special about the g10 native with the SS backspacer, I have to agree. So far this is probably the only model where I can say I prefer g10.

So far all of my natives are LW to reflect the different steel offerings. I do think a G10 version is missing in my collection and would jump all over a G10 Native in SPY27.

You mean that any G10 Spydie with SPY27 would only be made based on a dealer / distributor order, that a regular production G10 (or CF or Titanium or...) SPY27 model is not planned? :( If this is not what you mean, please explain, cause I don't get it.

I translate it as; with enough request, dealers and distributors will submit orders for highly requested items.

Still, to me this means that Spyderco's proprietary steel would exclusively be used with FRN designs in Spyderco's own regular production roadmap, unless they receive an order for a dealer/distributor exclusive. To me, this is a first. I would have thought that their own steel would find its way into all inhouse designs and all versions, in time. Now, this depends on third parties. It's a big deal.

That’s my interpretation of sals post as well, it’s been released in the Manix LW, para 3 LW and the native LW and we have yet to hear of anything else so for the time being I think that’s what we’re stuck with...

There is/was a PM2 with SPY27. No way they would limit it to FRN only. Maybe it’s just easier and more cost effective to launch as LW variants first. We’ll see...
