I owned the Chinook and the Tatanka. I thought the Powerlock was nice. It would be cool to see another XL with a Powerlock.

I’ve been curious about it too, and have looked at the Chinook 4 quite a bit. I’m not that fond of S30V though, having had some ongoing issues with a PM2 in that steel.

Can someone who has a knife with the Powerlock confirm if it is tightly locked up when open? Or does it have a little vertical play, like some of the Seki lockbacks?

The military would seem to fit the bill here.

I would like to see a powerlock Manix XL. I've considered the Chinook 4 just to try the lock, but its a bit too much belly for my utilitarian preferences.

Military, Police, or any other big folder would be good candidates for this lock. It feels overkill for littler knives.

Military for me (so we can finally get a fully Ambidextrous Millie)... A great lock for a hard use classic.

I agree it would be nice to see a back lock Millie, and a power lock seems like a good choice for that platform.

I’d try a Millie, only because I want a BACKLOCK Military.

I am not an engineer. I have trouble wrapping my head around how having more parts does not create weak points that could fail. The backlock is simple in that regard.

A choil-less Shaman with a Power Lock would be cool. My suggestion would be a Manix XL with a Power Lock, it would also service those who want a backlock Manix XL.

Does that complexity decrease the simplicity? Not at all.

Oh man, that beast makes the Military look small! So what's the difference btw a powerlock and a backlock?

Thanx for the pics Reject.

Hi Julia,

The Powerlock was invented by Kimiuki Sakai in Seki City, Japan. The main difference between the back-lock and the Powerlock is the extra part in the lock bar. It creates a wedge effect. Quite strong. There are probably a few drawings around of the lock.

I designed the knife because we had a few customers that felt we needed a mega knife somewhere in the line, just to see if we could. There are a few out there that really like very large folders. The grind line goes through the center so it has a strong point. 'Tis a beast, really.

The two that I had had zero (vertical) up and down play.

Shaman. Or that no choil Shaman you hinted at.
I was scrolling down to see if anyone else would suggest this. A really tough blade shape combined with a really tough lock. Cool combo.

"The Shaman Power Lock". It sounds good doesn't it?

I joined this forum (long time lurker) just to comment on this topic.

My Vote: 7/8 or 3/4 sized Tatanka.

I love my Tatanka (I've purchased 3, mine, a spare, and a gift) and would like a slightly smaller version, still with the Power Lock. The Tantaka is a little too scary in public and a little big for small tasks, but I really do like the blade shape and overall ergonomics. It's currently my hiking/hunting/outdoor folder.

What size are you suggesting?

If we're doing a mini Tatanka / Tatanka 2.0, can it be lighter? That was the main thing that kept me from buying one when I handled it.

Love the ergonomics, size, blade shape, and the lock was neat, but 9+oz is a lot to pocket.

With a reduced frame size and possibly a taller flat grind I could see shaving a couple ounces off being possible.

Taller grind or a hollow grind.

I have a Native Chief which I like the size of, but I was disappointed that it wasn't as heavy-bladed as the Native 5. I like the Shaman's shape, choil, blade thickness, etc, but don't really like the compression lock.

Ideally I'd like a copy of the Tatanka, scaled down to 4.25" (maybe 4.0") blade length. No change to the grind, blade shape, or thickness. I like the sturdy character of the Tatanka, and there are already plenty of delicately-tipped Spydercos ;).

Yeah I don't see the point of a lock that is supposed to be extra strong being used on a knife that isn't also built for abuse. A Power Lock Kiwi 4 would be pretty cool but also wouldn't be something I'd want to lean on and test the lock.
