Well, when it comes to H1 in plain edge I have a different approach. I never thin out the blade stock and/or the cutting bevel but I touch up the apex in my own way. H1 is a different animal and once you get the idea it’s quite rewarding.

I believe Vivi run sit quite thin and see better performance over the stock edge.
This is true. My Pacific Salt was reground to scandi then I applied a 15dps bevel. My Aqua Salt was reprofiled to around 10dps with a 15dps microbevel.

The two things I found made the biggest difference in seeing better edge retention in PE H1 were thinner angles and lower grit edges.

Vivi you find PE H1 and edge retention in the same sentence? That surprises me. I've found it comparable to 8cr, but at a much higher price. Though I have to admit, your sharpening skills are much more advanced than mine. H1 has never impressed me though, unless as an SE.
PE H1 loses its initial sharpness very, very fast, but can keep up with other steels when it comes to holding a working edge. This is why running this specific steel with a coarse edge is crucial for good performance.

If you run a polished edge and dull it a bit, you will have terrible cutting performance. If you sharpen PE H1 in the 200-600 grit range and dull it to the point it can't even scrape shave, it will still cut through a garage full of cardboard.

So while PE H1 does not have good edge retention, there are things you can do to help it cut longer. I've been carrying PE H1 knives a lot this month and its not like I have to resharpen them after each day of use. They're still good working knives.

We, who are in EU, haven't got any yet :D
But I'm not waiting for the first run of this new Pac Salt, I'm waiting for the Salt 2...
Interested in these early reports none the less.

X2, I'm here for the exact same two reasons. +1 to the "Salt 2 in the Pac Salt" thread support group :D

For body screws I don't mind using blue loctite but for pivots I prefer vibratite vc3 for my ocd micro-adjustments.

Anyone know where this may be in stock? I ordered one from knifecenter but apparently they didn't actually have a stock of them, and I wasn't planning on a preorder...should I just wait?

Felt a rush of impatience and almost ordered from the US this week, but some last minute sanity prevented me from pulling the trigger.
Not only is it just a knife, it's just another knife, so I realized I'll probably survive to wait for a little while.

Now, just as I write this, I realize the upcoming election can skew everything and we'll might not see this thing in Europe for ages. ****, should have pulled that trigger anyway

:p :p

But honestly: I WILL report... dwarf mountain pine cutting does show what a blade is worth indeed... ;)
(And I have a feeling that in this particular task the "old" sabre hollow grind Pac Salt SE might still be better...)

I think you'll like this one Wartstein. It is so light and well balanced.

I'm carrying my old Pacific 1 today but this week I plan to mod the tip on my LC200N Pacific then swap the scales out for black. Then I'm going to put it to work!
