Rare C65 Lum Chinese Folder Variant

#1

Post by Mr Blonde »

I showed off this rare variant of the Spyderco C65 Lum Chinese Folder before in the picture gallery, but I recently got around to editing a little video on it for the Picture Gallery subforum. Fellow forumite Wartstein suggested I also posted it here, so here goes.

Not only is this C65 a sprint run of an iconic design, made with a blue almite coated aluminum handle, it also demonstrates Spyderco’s engraving service (at the time).

Thanks for posting the vid on the "main forum" too! :)
As said in the "picture forum": Many might not follow this subforum and so might have missed seeing the nice vid and such a beautiful knife! :)

What we really need is a framelock version of both the Large Chinese and the Tanto folder.

I would lose my mind, trying to get one. The Chinese Folder was one of the biggest surprises I've come across, while collecting knives. It is such a nice design, just a bit small in standard form.

Very nice. I really like the handle. What other goodies do you have to show us since you can’t go to Blade or other shows?

Wow, how I wish Spyderco would do a new sprint of the Lum Chinese! The darker green model is at the very top of my Spydie wish list, but I'd love to have a pink or foliage green one, too, as well as a SE version. I've never seen this variation before - it's gorgeous!

I really miss Bob Lum. I liked all of his designs. Still my favorite of his is the C-46 Lum Tanto folder. It's still my "show off" knife I pull out and EDC on special occasions>> and you wouldn't believe how many compliments I get on it>> even from several "non-knife" people.

Bob Lum's tanto design even to this day is still about the only Tanto design I like. His was more streamlined and functional than most others I've seen.

That LUM Chinese seems like it's really authentic too.

Nor am I! ;) Only 3 of these still remain in my collection: the original green PE, Ti, and a blade swap of the HAP40 exclusive into the Nishijin scales.

As I always do, I sold them at very generous prices on the BF Exchange (so other collectors and devotees can enjoy them), only to have one of the buyers turn around and flip several of them on eBay . The TiCN-coated foliage green one is still currently up at 2X the price I sold it. I have kindly asked this BF buyer never offer to buy another one of my knives. I can’t stand flippers...

I saw a fully serrated Lum Chinese in green Alamite sell for $108 on eBay the other day. I was bidding but got outbid and slept thru the end of auction. I was so mad at myself!
