I can chime in that I touch up my S110V UKPK on my ceramic sharpmaker stones all the time. Gets it back to a hair popping edge every time. So the sharpmaker can definitely handle at least routine sharpening of 110V.

I think this is an excellent question. One I had myself and actually emailed Spyderco before I bought my sharp maker. It all stems from that "fact" (I'm not sure it is but think it might be?) that vanadium carbides are harder than pretty much all ceramics and therefore can't be cut by those type of sharpeners. I don't think this can be asked enough. Not everyone has read the Science of Sharp website and not everyone (I would say me included) really understand how the carbides work in the "matrix" of the rest of the steel. So please keep asking questions!

I don't worry about it. I got it for the carbides. 600 mesh DMT and call it good. If I want polished push cut hair whittling I'll grab another knife with a more responsive steel. Not gonna waste time trying to achieve polished push cut on S110V. Not that it can't be done. I'm just not willing to put in the time and work.

I asked this very question to Spyderco 2 years ago before I got my Sharpmaker and long before I joined the forum. I was hung up on the carbide hardness and that "tearing out" of carbide from the steel matrix also. So bringing this topic up every so often is probably a good thing. So actually I think you're doing a service. Welcome to the forum!

I got a Para 3 Blurple in S110v.

It came sharp , but I have used my Sharpmaker to get a real hair cutting edge.

I did use the medium stones/rods to get the right 20' edge , then used the white to polish that edge.

I have found out by trial and error that using only the medium stones , edge and flat , that I can get it as sharp, but not polished (mirror).
It cuts tomatoes easier now with this edge. Ditto paper and plastic stuff.

I don't now use the white rods.
I have tried this technique on the kitchen knives at home , and find the edge is better left this way. It cuts better !

Anyone else leave the edge like this on their knives ?

Is the sharpmaker (with default stones) essentially useless on S110v? Thanks.
No, but if you are doing a full blown sharpening on a dull s110v, you will want a jig system.

I haven't had to reprofile an S110V blade yet, but touch-ups are no problem for even the regular brown & white stones on the Sharpmaker.
