Spyderco Nightstick - Neck Knife?

#1

Post by Naperville »

I don't have one yet and I'm picking up at least one, possibly multiples(don't ask....hehehehe, some martial arts use 6 knives!). No boots here at the moment, so can this boot knife be used otherwise? I believe so!

For those of you with one or who have seen/handled one, can the Nighstick be used as a neck knife? The reason why I'm asking is that I like what I see in the Nightstick, and there are other knives with just 1/2 an inch shorter blade that are marketed as neck knives.

It's been a long time since I have thrown knives so I won't be trying that for you. I do find it to be well balanced and the signature scales which provide great indexing are a plus. I would consider weight however. On my scale the knife alone is 3.9 oz (which may be a plus for heft) and with the included sheath it is 6.3 oz. Sharpening the swedge could change the weight, balance and dynamics, as would a different sheath to ease the weight on the neck and facilitate faster draw. Is it at all possible that the Spydie Hole could impact your throwing?

Throwing? NO, I don't plan to do any. Never throw anything but a dedicated throwing knife.

Other than obviously getting to big, I'm not certain what determines a neck knife from one that isn't other than the end user???? I haven't done this before.

I've had mine under a hoodie some around the house and feel quite comfortable with it; actually, like it.

Seems to ride well and is a quick and natural movement going from both hands in the large front pocket to having a knife in hand and deployed. One hand starts moving the material out from the body slightly while the other slips out and beneath and brings the knife out. The sheath is thumb indexed so you know if your grip is correct or not.

I don't see me trying this with lighter or tighter clothing. I'm about 5'-11" and 195lbs.

YMMV,
