Remoove metal liner

#1

Post by Jull »

Hello,

i want to reemoove liner métal part of my Strech 2, for save weight.
https://www.knivesandtools.fr/fr/pt/-sp ... -poche.htm

First idea was make scale and backspacer without métal part, in horn if it's possible or g10 if not.

Do you think it's possible?
Do you know someone who can do this in low budget... (100/150dollars)

Thanks

Hi Jull,

Welcome to our forum.

You are thinking that the horn scales will support the pivots and screws?

I would only remove material of the liner itself, not the whole liner. Drill more holes, use a Dremel...

Hi Jull,
An e-mail to Cuscadi might help. They may have done something similar.

Yes full sheep horn handle, remplacing métal liner and backspacer ('backlock" part) in g10.

I have contact Cuscadi and he can doo this, but i'm not sure about solidity of the horn, other probleme can be it will be more difficult to assemble, nuts for screws are D-shaped, and same holes in steel liners.

So after trying to assembling the knife without metal part, i see i cant tighten corectly the screws, normal metal part have hole with D-shape for tighten correctly...

So i will just make scale in sheep horn, bacspacer in g 10 ivory and maybe the weight it's ok i forget the knife in my pocket if i dont think to him.

Just message for Sal, félicitation for this knife so instinctive too use, for me a perfect all arround with simplcity and nice disign, in pocket for long, long and long time :)

Horn is weaker than G-10 or steel. Like wood, horn is stronger in one direction than another. Steel and G-10 are equally strong in many directions. Horn can make a great scale, but it needs a solid foundation, which a steel liner provides.
