Would you buy a Catcherman 2?

Here is the Spyderco Catcherman:

Here are the specifications

Why am I interested in this knife?

+ It is part of the Salt line
+ Extremely slicey 1.8mm!! blade stock
+ It offers an unprecedented weight to length ratio: 2.7oz / 4.75" blade!!! That's nearly half the weight of the Military while having 3/4" more blade!
+ It has a thin, pointy tip
+ It has an ergonomic looking handle that should facilitate a variety of hand sizes.

Anyone that has read my posts knows this looks like the perfect folder for me.

I would really like to see a Catcherman Salt run of some sort.

I would be thrilled with a sprint run of the original in H1/FRN in any color under the sun, CE or SE.

I would be ecstatic to see this design re-imagined with bi-directional texturing, a four way hourglass clip and blacked out hardware like the Pacific Salt 2.

Would either option interest you at all?

Disclaimer: I have never seen one of these, much less carried and used one. My enthusiasm is based on specs and photos.

I would buy one for myself and one for my father, who taught me how to fish (and is still teaching me how to fish four decades later). It would be perfect in LC200N. Perhaps Lance could help with the re-design.

Totally into it. Would like SE, PE and maybe CE. All FFG, maybe LC for the Salt and CruWear for a non salt-- apparently there has been a bunch of CruWear in Seki!

Probably not. Don't really like the hooking rear handle which gives it an even more negative blade angle. Don't really do much power cutting when fileting. More draw slicing than power cutting. Then again, I don't saw or push cut through ribs. I either filet over them or cut through them with shears or bandage scissors if they are particularly thick and sturdy. Saves much time sharpening. <g>

Yes, yes, yes! Especially as an FFG LC200N Catcherman 2 Salt with updated bi-directional screw construction FRN and Ti spoon clip. PE and SE and maybe even CE. This definitely needs to happen.

No...they would most likely retail for around $169 and that would be too much for me to spend on a fish knife.

Voted Maybe, because I'd really prefer it more with a removable clip so it would depend a lot on the "2" part, which I assume would get updated to current Salt handle style specs with a titanium clip. That's not to say I wouldn't buy a standard reproduction sprint because I most likely would just to have one but I'd be much more excited if it had an updated clip.

Make it LC200N with an updated clip and I'm in!

What leads you to believe it would cost $55 more than a similarly sized police 4?

LC200N, an upgraded clip and I'm in!

I would buy another Catcherman. However I've got some conditions to that. First off in my opinion the best Catcherman model they ever made in my opinion was in the old AUS-8 Catcherman models. As far as I know it was during those runs that the only full Spyderedged version was ever made. My AUS-8, Full SE Catcherman is one I use about every week.

Oh I do like all the rest of the Catcherman models including the nuclear green version with the H-1, combo edged blade. But if they do make a new edition of the Catcherman regardless of what blade steel they use I want another full SE Catcherman.

Oh and I would like to see the nuclear YELLOW handles again too. And I did vote YES

Voted "maybe." I do like the design, but I don't think it's a knife that I would carry often, due to size and visibility (neon colors). I do think it would make a great addition to a tackle-box. If I liked the color and the price was reasonable, I would probably get one.

Voted Yes.

No coating? Check.
SE H1? Check.
SE, CE or PE LC200N? Check.
Salt Yellow handle? Check.
Repositionable clip? Check.

Maybe more rounded points on the Spyderedge, a la Evil D?

Iā€™m thinking LC200N in Seki Spydies is a lost cause.

Never appreciated how thin this model is.

Absolutely. I had one of the USN toxic green Catchermen and I loved it. Would be in for a plain edge in a stainless steel. Honestly, I think this would be great in VG-10 for the kitchen or LC200N for a salt knife.

This!!!
A full Spyderedged version in LC200N!! That would get my attention and that would be a box office winner as well. And I don't care which factory it comes from.

I would even settle for another H-1 Catcherman if they did it in full SE.

But if you are talking a Plain edge or combo edge then I think that LC200N or even the older MBS-26 would be the logical choice. But another full SE Catcherman is way overdue IMO.

Yeah, I can see it more in the $100-120 range at retail (MAP price).

You know I'm on board with this
I know USN had their sprint, but in my opinion it wasn't indicative of those true AFIs who love slicey knives. I know JD has his opinion and we mostly agree, but what I want to see is not the Saber ground models of days past. I want to see the FFG models revitalized with LC200N in both SE and PE. Of all my Spydies, this model gets more use (not carry) than any other except my Santoku. Great thread vivi.
