Kris: Reborn
Re: Kris: Reborn
OK, OK. Pins, no screws. What a beautiful knife.

Ed's design was genius. He made a folder of the concept and carried the waves into the handle flawlessly.

Re: Kris: Reborn
When I saw the Kris announced I had to have one. The 1st Kris bladed knife I saw as a kid was a Pacific Cutlery balisong. I was fascinated by it and read up on the original Kris knives. The mystique was further deepened listening to some stories by MoA Keating. Getting one of them at that point in my life was financially impossible. Fast forward a few (ha!) years and Spyderco announced their Kris - had to get it.
Funny thing though, I generally don't like recurves. I'm also not the best at sharpening them. So my Kris is one of the few safe-queen knives I have. And I'll echo what other have said in that screws would look wrong on it to me.

Yes please I would love a kris. Mr. Schempp is a master of his craft.

Yeah, there's quite a few models I had to pay a pretty penny for after they've been discontinued for a while!JD Spydo wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 2:25 pmWith the fanfare that the KRIS model has attained over the years it really baffles me as to why it never took off when it was on the main line up. But it isn't the only Spyderco model that gained popularity after it was discontinued. I could name off at least 8 of them off the top of my head.
Some models just take some time to settle in and generate a fanbase I suppose.
It's just too bad it causes low production numbers (and thus no immediate reason for a larger/second production run).
As well as low availability causing high secondary market price
Pinned bolsters for sure and preferably Micarta, but polished G10 would be an option as well.
(just hoping they won't add screw holes for other clip positions and ruin the bolsters)
Would be nice to have it in the same shade of red as the Persian sprint :)
I do feel like a smaller size would appeal to the market some more and still look great on the Kris.

Never enjoyed the red Persian.
As for smaller size. Maybe. But, I'm not sure the blade will translate well to being shrunk down.

Yes, I probably spoke too soon on that one, JD!JD Spydo wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 2:21 pmReally I don't think it would be much different than what they use on Reverse S blades or Hawkbill blades either for that matter. Oh it could be done I can assure you of that. It might not be cheap but it could be done.Cambertree wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 8:11 amHmmm, they’d have to have a pretty funky shaped grinding wheel to apply serrations to that blade shape. :D
I really don't see how it would be any more difficult that putting serrations on a Reverse S blade>> especially something the size of a Civilian or Matriarch.
I don’t know why I didn’t think of the SE Matriarch, since I have one!
I’m curious as to how serrations are applied to those wavy blades now though.
Enactive - great pics, thanks.
It only just sunk in that the clip on the Kris is righty carry only. Although it would mar the look of the knife somewhat, I think I would even consider getting this knife if a rerun eventuates. and just removing the clip.

Re: Kris: Reborn
I will say that if possible I'd like to see the sprint in a VERY stainless steel. One of my concerns with pinned construction in general is the inability to fully clean out corrosion if it happens. That concern is minimized if the steel itself is less likely to present an issue.
EDC Rotation: PITS, Damasteel Urban, Shaman, Ikuchi, Amalgam, CruCarta Shaman, Sage 5 LW, Serrated Caribbean Sheepsfoot CQI, XHP Shaman, M4/Micarta Shaman, 15v Shaman
Fixed Blades: Proficient, Magnacut Mule
Special and Sentimental: Southard, Squarehead LW, Ouroboros, Calendar Para 3 LW, 40th Anniversary Native, Ti Native, Calendar Watu, Tanto PM2
Would like to own again: CQI Caribbean Sheepsfoot PE, Watu
Wishlist: Magnacut, Shaman Sprints!

Re: Kris: Reborn
I generally agree, but think VG-10 is sufficient for me. I love my LC and CruWear too, but expect a Japanese steel. I've been curious to try SR-13. Not that interested in S110v, nor H1 in this model.curlyhairedboy wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 10:29 amI will say that if possible I'd like to see the sprint in a VERY stainless steel. Still curious who the new maker might be-- as that really affects the steel options, among other variables. Maybe it won't even be made in Japan?

They are great looking bolsters, for sure.
I’m curious where the balance point of this knife is?
Re: Kris: Reborn
It is rather handle-heavy. Moreso than any of my ~15 other Spydie folders.Cambertree wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 5:45 pmThey are great looking bolsters, for sure.

Re: Kris: Reborn
Yes, the weight is what makes me think I probably wouldn’t carry the Kris as an everyday, general EDC knife, so I could probably remove the righty clip and just carry it in a belt sheath or loose in a jacket pocket.Enactive wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 6:07 pmNot a great pic, but you get the idea.Cambertree wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 6:04 pmOK, cool, and thanks for the pic, Enactive! :)Enactive wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 5:57 pmIt is rather handle-heavy. Or, given it’s a backlock, maybe just make an exception to my usual requirements for lefty friendly knife features and leave the clip alone.

I've been dreaming of a 100% LC200N Micro Dyad. This, would pave the way to that being a possibility!DutchBlades wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 3:28 pmLC200N Kris? Ivory polished Micarta/G10 and Pinned, 100% LC200N Construction. I'm down.
P.S. I volunteer to beat the ever loving snot out of one, if it is made. :p :D

Re: Kris: Reborn
Agreed. I'm wondering if we could get the liners/bolsters/blade all Lc200n, then no worries about galvanic corrosion and it becomes a true user!

We need an LC200N Kris! At the end of the world, all that's left will be cockroaches and the the LCKris.
