I realize that is probably in poor taste, but I am getting frustrated, and I need to laugh.
I think i will look for that Golden Ticket.

And it wouldn't hurt to bring a few pairs of those blue disposable 5 mil nitrile gloves from Harbor Freight to make it safer for everybody to handle the knives, and of course a face mask.koenigsegg wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 9:58 pmMove the sale up to before it gets cold and have it outside that's the only way I see it being very safe

Assuming you're in Cal., it sure looks terrible out there -- the rest of the country is watching and hoping it'll be over quickly.

Re: Seconds Sale 2020
It might be safe, but how do you control access? How many knives get lifted at the indoor sales is anyone's guess since it's pretty much on the honor system and not everyone is honorable even at these events. However many it is, multiply by at least ten for an outdoor event. Might as well truck them out to the landfill.koenigsegg wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 9:58 pmMove the sale up to before it gets cold and have it outside that's the only way I see it being very safe

Re: Seconds Sale 2020
Please provide the link to the BF thread where they said they were not attending the 2021 OKCA Show please. First I’ve heard of that... Thank you.wrdwrght wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 12:30 pmMay not be the place (or my place), but Spyderco did announce some days ago over on BF that it was cancelling its annual appearance at the Oregon gathering NEXT APRIL... With that kind of caution, I’d be very surprised if this year it will host an event that sounds like the storied madness of Filene’s Basement.

Re: Seconds Sale 2020
Read all so far.
2nds Mystery boxes.
My idea would be random knives in a box
$200 per box + shipping. Limit 2 boxes per order.
No returns.
Sold online via Spyderco
Gives us Overseas guys a go......And how cool are mystery boxes.

Good grief. My bad. I failed to note the post date. It’s the April 2020 show that was cancelled. Apologies.

Re: Seconds Sale 2020
I was going to suggest this as an alternative as well. Maybe you could choose your Model and Steel preferences from a list and they fulfill them in by order # and try to reasonably accommodate the model/steel preferences without taking too much time digging through all of the knives and the understanding when you order is you may get none of these.
Like I would be more than happy to buy a few mystery boxes of Seki knives in VG-10, H1, Cruwear, S30V, M390, etc. Load me up on Delicas, Enduras, Endelas, Dragonflies, Police LW, Salt Series, Wharnies, Hawkbills, Emerson Openers, etc.
Same with Byrd knives, give me a box of FRN Byrd knives I can stash in every car, drawer, toolbox, etc as beater knives.
CRU-CARTA THE SEKI MODELS! AND BRING US THE DODO-FLY!
Re: Seconds Sale 2020
Best suggestion so far...
Or just warehouse 'em until next year.

Re: Seconds Sale 2020
As an international customer, I approve of this 100%.
The good staff of Spyderco could compile piles of knives, with 1 or 2 sprint runs or exclusives per lot.
I like the idea of mystery boxes a lot...as long as you're getting an exclusive or 2 inside. Kinda like opening booster packs of collectible trading cards, not knowing what you're exactly gonna get, but you're assured that there is at least 1 card of high value inside.

Re: Seconds Sale 2020
It sounds like a decent compromise now but when your box full of blemished knives in models that you don't want with "basic" steels shows up, you might think otherwise. The number of regular production models at the sale far exceeds the number of exclusives and sprints available. Golden made knives, also, outnumber knives from other countries. I seriously doubt they could gaurantee one exclusive or sprint per box.
Also, this would really flood the market with second quality knives. People will be getting boxes with numerous knives they don't want and will undoubtedly be selling them off. Hard to imagine they won't be trying to maximize their return too.
I think a mystery box with first quality Spyderco products could be fun. :)

Re: Seconds Sale 2020
I've always wanted to attend a seconds sale but it's never worked out for me yet. The idea of an online sale sounds appealing until you start thinking about all the extra work it would take to pull it off along with other issues previously mentioned.
The mystery box thing sounds like a good idea too but I'd much rather pick out the knives I purchase. Otherwise I don't think the value would be there when you consider possible knives I'd like and keep vs the ones in the box I have no desire to own.
It would be a shame if Spyderco can't find a way to pull off a seconds sale this year. If they decided it's not possible it seems like cancelling it for this year is probably the best solution

Re: Seconds Sale 2020
This could boost inventory for a 2021 sale. I'd totally be down for that.
As for a mystery box, I purchased a Spyderco mystery box from Drop (formerly Massdrop) in 2019. They had the odds posted for what you could likely win in addition to your committed purchase. A bit of allure for buyers to win more than just a $ value mystery box could also prompt more lurkers to throw down the cash. I'd be interested to hear Sal's thoughts on this.
