Mirrored stone wash finish love thread

#1

Post by metaphoricalsimile »

I absolutely love the mirrored stone wash finish on my Manix 2 LW in BD1N. So much so that I would preferentially purchase spydercos with this finish in the future. Which knives come with this finish? Is it consistent? Have any pics that show it off?

The Slysz Bowie, Swayback and Techno 2 all also share that dreamy mirror-like finish, in CTS-XHP :)

It’s my favorite finish as well. The Paysan and I believe the Drunken have that finish as well.

All of the current Maxamet offerings I believe. I have the Native and it’s very nice.

S30V Shaman as well.

This used to be my favorite finish. I still really enjoy it, however I am always left with a feeling that the knife is not sharp, I feel it detracts from a slicey appearance as the blade is so smooth and polished and the edges and lines are rounded (some designs more than others, e.g. Techno 2, Paysan). Like I said I still enjoy, but I find myself intrigued by the angle grinds like the Advocate and Schempp Bowie.

I've got the Manix 2 and others with the polished/stone washed blades. I like the look when it's clean. I think the finish does have a surface roughness that collects oils, fingerprints, and anything else that comes in contact with it, so I'm always wiping them off. I read someone say they thought their blade was tarnishing, but it really just wipes off.

I like it for variety, but I'm indifferent between it and the regular satin finish. I feel like it cuts down on patina/corrosion somewhat. It would be interesting to see if a 52100 or M4 blade with that finish was more resistant to corrosion.

Big fan here too. My first ones with it were a Manix 2 LW and Native 5 LW. I've acquired a few others since including a Southard that looks particularly nice. I like the way it hides finger prints and light scratches

Im on the fence about the lil natives blade finish. A lot of dealers say its satin but its not. On Spydercos website it is called a matte finish. Its sort of a hazy mirror finish. More like it was sandblasted or something.

Yeah, the s30v Lil native blade finish is one of my least favorite finishes. It's a fingerprint magnet and somehow shows scratches more than Satin...

I fell in love with this finish many years ago. I think my favorite examples are the XHP Mule and the Southard.

I just picked up an SE Native 5 second hand to try out SE. it’s an older S35VN version and it seems to have a dull mirror finish that I wasn’t expecting. Looks great. Not quite as grey as my Maxamet Native but very nice all the same.
