30 years of Delicas and Enduras

#1

Post by Sonorum »

I just saw on instagram that the Delica and Endura are celebrating 30 years this year. Congratulations to Sal and Spyderco for making such iconic and long lasting knives! :spyder:

Maybe we can get to see some pictures of peoples collections of these models? Would be cool to see the evolution of them and to see some old beat up ones.

Question to Sal: does Spyderco know how many Delicas and Enduras has been made over the years? When will we see the millionth Delica? :D

Does anybody have any cool story about how a Delica or Endura made your day better?

These are two of the best knife designs by any company, ever. I hope they never go out of production. Every time Spyderco makes a Sprint Run or there is an exclusive the first thing I do is check to see if I can squeeze it in the budget. I love these two knives.

We need some special 30th anniversary edition Delicas and Enduras! I vote for metallic gold FRN and Cruwear blades. Maybe a tiny "30th" on the blade, but nothing too crazy.

I love all my spydies but allways go back to one of my beloved Delicas at least for a couple weeks. This is a perennial design and this thread deserves a pic :

My first Spyderco was a fully serrated Generation 1 Delica that I bought my freshman year of college (the fall of 1994). Two years later, I used that knife to cut a jammed seatbelt so that I could extract myself from a car wreck. After picking up a Generation 2 Delica, I gave my original knife to a friend who was broke and needed a blade for work. I now wish I’d given my friend the new Gen 2 knife and kept the original Delica for myself, since it was my first Spyderco.

I've owned and sold 4 delicas over the years. I regret selling every one of them. it's a great model.

They are certainly both iconic knives. I doubt the Salt and Pac Salt would be here without them, which is another plus.

After owning and trying most of the flagship Golden and Seki models over the past few years, the Delica and Endura have emerged as my two most carried models. I carry them 90% of the time these days. An orange VG-10 Endura is in my pocket now. I still need to try the Endela and I'll be purchasing one soon. I'm definitely getting the K390 Endura, Delica, and Dragonfly in K390 and these models in DLT's new Cru-ple combo would really be Grails knives for me, especially the Endura.

Many of us started with one, or both of those models! :D
I've experimented with Plain, CE, and SE on these models this year, and enjoy them all. :spyder:

Not quite 30yrs old but it was my first Spyderco.
It's been retired since 2011 but it would still go to work if i needed it to.

Here is what I would like to see in the next 30 years (but hopefully in the next 3 years) out of these two Iconic models.

1. G10 sprints in a popular guaranteed to sell steel like Cruwear
2. CRU-CARTA sprints
3. The return of white FRN
4. More non-zome GITD in maybe some colors like GITD blue, pink, and orange
5. FFG LC200N Delica and Endura salts. These would differ from the regular Salt and Pac Salt by having liners and the pointier tip.
6. The continued use of non-clad imported steels like Cruwear and expanded to include CPM-4V, CPM-3V, AEB-L.
7. Blacked out versions of the basic VG-10 PE models and more TiCN coated blades in general on the sprints and exclusives
8. All of the above applied to the Endela and Dragonfly as well! :D

After owning CRKTs and Kershaws for awhile, the difference in quality and craftsmanship (for a mass produced knife) was evident the very first time I got my Delica 4 some time ago. Never looked back since. :)

Thank you Glesser family for making such an iconic knife.

My first Spyderco was a PE Aus-8 Delica back in 1997. I think my second was a CE Aus-8 Endura in 1998.

I have owned more iterations of Delicas and Enduras over the years than any other knife models.

When I first got my Para 3 a couple years ago, I thought it was way superior to the Delica. But I find myself drifting back to the Delica in that size knife more often than my Para 3. The Delica will never become obsolete. I’m sure it and the Endura will continue evolving.

The next time I buy a knife might be a SE Endela.

Where did you find that K390 Delica? I’ve been waiting on those.
