Collaborations - Your Top Five Spydies

#1

Post by wrdwrght »

I’m here for the Glessers’ designs, and my Spydies are almost entirely theirs.

But Spyderco’s standing invitation to collaborate has surely produced fertile ground for fantastic Spydies.

Name the top five Spydie collabs you actually own WITHOUT naming a collaborator more than once.

With this restriction, I can name only four collaborators but I’m sure happy with the rather different ones I have. Mine, in order of my preference, are:

Lance Clinton’s Siren
Gayle Bradley’s Bradley Folder “GB1”
Alistair Phillips’ Kapara
Marcin Slysz’s SpydieChef

I will not be animating this thread, but feel free to comment on resulting models and lists.

Oh my... only owned a single one, the Kapara... all others are / were Sal, Eric or Sal and Eric designs...

But I really did like the Kapara! The handle looks and feels VERY nice and like high quality, still I´d like to see a more grippy option with a NON deep carry clip and a linerlock (or at least a bit better accessible comp. lock tab).
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I've only had one Spyderco collaboration - the Advocate. I liked it.

Province
Street Beat (x2)
Ulize
Darn Dao/Tanto FB
Waterway
Smock (x2)
Centofante 3
Genzow HatchetHawk

I can’t remove any of those and still look at myself in the mirror! ;)

The Amalgam and Parata are on my short list, and the Subvert may end up in the collection if if they make another batch and funds allow.

I forgot the Rock! How could I forget the Rock? That and the Province are two of my favorite medium sized fixed blades.

Bob Lum: Chinese & Tanto Folder
Jess Horn: Baby Horn
Gayle Bradley: Junction & Advocate
Ulrich Hennicke: Ulize
Fred Perrin: Street Beat
Ed Schemp: Kris

There are MANY more. But, that is probably the shortlist(I could only whittle it down to six...)

My top 5 Spyderco collabs that I have owned (and still do own):

Marcin Slysz - Techno
Phil Wilson - Southfork
Gayle Bradley - Air
Gabor Szakonyi - Hungarian
Ed Schempp - Schempp Rock

The other collabs that I have, but that did not make the top 5 are...
GB 1
Bow River
Yojimbo
Slysz Bowie
Junction
Waterway

These are all great knives, but just not my top 5 favorites.
