Interest for an all Titanium Ikuchi?

#1

Post by Mako109 »

IIRC the designer Paul Alexander once mentioned a titanium Ikuchi was considered. I for one would love to see that happen along with an appropriate stainless steel upgrade. Any others?

I'd be down for a couple. Would prefer something like 52100, but I just like patina. I'd take a titanium one even if it was just in s30v still.

I'd like an Ikuchi Salt in FFG LC200N with black peel ply G10 scales. It would make a great folding steak knife for taking out that could be safely washed and dried without worry of corrosion.

Idk if a integral ti comp lock would work with how narrow it is. But, if they can do it, I'd buy one in a second.

I'm in for all non-S30v ikuchi variants.

Yeah. This would be intriguing for sure. Lc200n would be key in a full salt model.

Are we talking a RIL / frame lock? I cannot recall having seen an all titanium compression lock.

I don't see much point in simply replacing the the G10 scales with titanium, unless the stainless steel liners are also removed. The way the friction flipper tab is currently designed, there isn't a flat surface on the tang for a conventional frame lock to push against. It would be interesting if Paul could design an interlocking mating surface for a RIL or a titanium frame compression lock.

The original A.T.Rs are Ti frame comp locks, aswell as one of the Salsa models. They are solid Ti, no steel liners.

Seems like a slippery option to me. I love my Ikuchi, but I can't imagine it being better in Ti.

I guess it depends on how the ti is engraved or finished. Something grippy but not snaggy could be interesting.

Maybe the scales (pun intended) could have a theme like this:

I really like this idea. Milled "cups" on the edges of the scales, mimicking the Ikuchi's tentacles.

Good thinking!

I wonder if the name is derived from this or possibly a 'Aikuchi', which is a type of tanto. Ether way a bit of decorative milling in Ti would be great :D
A new integral compression lock would be awesome too. I hope they bring those back sometime!

I'm not as in love with Ti as a lot of people, but I'd be pretty interested to see an upgraded Ikuchi.

Same as Tom, upgraded would be nice but not really interested in Ti. Ti is the answer when you want heavier, slippier, and more expensive...nothing I'm looking for ;)

I wouldn't turn down an Ikuchi with the same blade/handle materials as the upcoming damascus UKPK. :D
