Anybody else want Rex45 as a Production steel?
Anybody else want Rex45 as a Production steel?
I would love to see Rex45 become a production steel. I know that it won't since it was a sprint, so the likelihood of this is slim-to-none. However, I just had to put it out into the ether. I love Rex45 so much and would love to see it as a staple on the Golden knives. After all, we're getting K390 in Seki. I think we need a carbon tool steel option in Golden...and I want more Rex45 Shamans and Millies.
So...who's with me? Anyone else out there want to jump on board with my wishful thinking?

Cruwear would be my choice. Tougher and more stainless. It's about the best all around steel out there. It seems perfectly suited to a production steel. My dream is for production Cruwear in all of the Seki and Golden models.

I've got the PM2, Manix and Shaman in Rex45. My Rex45 desires are filled! Nothing any other knife with Rex45 could do, that those 3 couldn't!

I have to try REX 45 yet, but since it is basically an uncladded US version of HAP40 (and run a bit harder) from what I read: Yes, I´d most likely want to see it as a production steel!
HAP40 is my favorite steel so far and for me personally corrosion never was a real issue with any steel. Two points for REX 45 I guess...

Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I'd definitely take Cruwear too. It's my second favorite steel after Rex45, and honestly Cruwear might be a more realistic option (assuming that there is any chance at all of a production tool steel option in Golden).steelcity16 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 9:48 amCruwear would be my choice. YES! You absolutely do need to try Rex 45 one of these days. Hap40 is great, and I love it in my Delica. I just wish that it was run a bit harder like the Rex 45 in the Golden models.Wartstein wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 10:14 amI have to try REX 45 yet, but since it is basically an uncladded US version of HAP40 (and run a bit harder) from what I read: Yes, I´d most likely want to see it as a production steel!

I’d be happy to have Rex, Cruwear or even 4V as a production option on all the Golden models. I’m looking forward to the K390 Endura and love my HAP40 models out of Seki.

Rex 45
Cruwear
4v
M4

I would like for there to be a production option for all of these.
I would be happy for a production version of any of these.

Honestly, I'd rather see what Spyderco finds next. :)
Re: Anybody else want Rex45 as a Production steel?
I have a couple knives in REX45, as well as other very impressive materials, in a variety of configurations. Frankly, I have more than enough to meet my needs for the rest of my life. So whatever I buy between now and the day I start pushing up daisies, it's got to be different than what I already have.

Re: Anybody else want Rex45 as a Production steel?
I already own a few knives in REX45. Not sure why I need more.
In general I think that production steels should mostly be stainless. Not because that is what I prefer but because that is what the average joe prefers and it is what is probably the better business decision.
I agree that Cruwear makes more sense as a production steel.

I agree with all of these points, but I still would want more Rex 45 (that's just me though). I agree that Cruwear makes more sense too, and I hope more folks will chime in to say what they prefer one way or another. Even if they don't agree with me.bearfacedkiller wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 1:18 pmI already own a few knives in REX45. Not sure why I need more.

I love this list. I would love for all of these too. I'd especially love to see M4 in the Seki line-up. I want an M4 delica. Actually, I want like 4 of those.VooDooChild wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 11:04 amRex 45

REX45 continues to impress me, and the PM2 has been back in my pocket lately. However, not sure it makes sense as a full lineup from Golden.... How about REX45 out of Taichung? Sage5 LW? Chaparral FRN?

Agreed. I think rex45 lovers, especially, will be very happy with k390.abbazaba wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 2:44 pmYou're gonna love K390kerrcobra wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 2:05 pmI love this list. Re: Anybody else want Rex45 as a Production steel?
Personally, I'd rather have rex45 as a production steel than maxamet. Cheaper, apparently easier to sharpen, and by many accounts better in the edge stability department.kerrcobra wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 2:04 pmI agree with all of these points, but I still would want more Rex 45 (that's just me though).
