My first post and a question

#1

Post by SpyderJay »

Hey guys and gals,

I am new to the forum here, this is my first post, but have owned Spyderco knives for quite some time now. I just ordered 3 new Spyderco knives and can't wait for tomorrow (pics to follow when they arrive).
I tried searching what tools I need to maintain, change, or tighten up my knife parts - specifically the clip position - but didn't come up with anything helpful. Is there a set anyone can recommend I should get or can I just go down to hardware store?

Thanks for all the good information on here!

Stay safe,
Jay

i have a few different torx bit sets that are all cheap. they work alright, but they are not the highest quality. people seem to really like the wiha bit sets. they're a little more expensive, but with tools, you get what you pay for, generally speaking. they're not that expensive. i'll be ordering some as soon as my junky set craps out.

some that i have that work well are the leatherman bit kit and a worksharp edc micro sharpener and knife tool. both of these have the torx bits you'll most commonly need and are good quality items with more versatility.

welcome. :)

Hi Jay. Welcome to the forum.

Hardware store is not always a bad idea. Craftsman makes a great little 18 bit multi screwdriver for under $10. I use it to make tweaks on my knives and I sent the granddaughter off to college with one for glasses repair and all miscellaneous.

Welcome and enjoy your new spydies! Lots of great recommendations for good torx bit sets in the thread linked above. For most spydies you'll only need a #6, #8, and/or a #10. Occasionally you'll run into a situation where you need two of a certain size.

Welcome aboard.

And I have never once regretted getting a set of Wiha torx drivers. Was using them just the other day.

I bought a set of WIHA bits last month:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001U ... UTF8&psc=1

I thought they were priced right for a product made in Germany, as shown in the photo at the time, but my case was not labelled "Made in Germany".

The blister pack card said, "Made with Global components by Wiha in Germany, Vietnam, and Taiwan."

They seem to be OK quality, although I've only used them once.

I also bought a bit holder:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XR ... UTF8&psc=1

And a tube on roll-on LocTite:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0053 ... UTF8&psc=1

Welcome to the forum.

What knives did you order?

Welcome!

I've been using the torx bits of a Craftsman thirty-three piece magnetic bit driver and standard bit set (comes with seven different sizes of torx bits) that I bought from Sears years ago for all of my Spyderco needs.

Some Vaseline for lube on knives used on food works well. Otherwise, you need some good lube like Breakfree, Froglube, or etc.

Welcome. You will enjoy the people here.

Hello and welcome! I'm a wiha guy as well, I keep a set in the car, one at my desk at work and have one in garage. Sometimes you need to use 2 of the same bits.

Sorry, I ordered the following: KaraHawk, Delica 4 lightweight combo edge,
and the Para 3 lightweight (all of them are black on black). Came in last night. I had the top rescue knife already shown in the photo.

Well, you DO like black! ;)

The CE Delica was my first Spyderco (though with satin blade) - I still have it and have no plans to ever get rid of it.

Another black on black version I´d recommend: Manix 2 LW!

PS: And welcome to the forum of course! :)
