The one I got from BHQ is a CQI version. Very nice knife. I like the CQI changes.

I recieved a CQI version. Date code is HS.
What was changed in the CQI upgrade?
VooDooChild already answered the question. Click the link for pictures and more discussion on the CQI.

Thanks for the link. As VooDooChild said, those changes don’t sound particularly compelling to me, either.

Edited to add: just read the other linked thread. The wider ridges might help the reholstering issue I have. Interesting about the galvanic issues Sal mentioned. I wonder if feedback from Lance (Surfgringo) led to that change?

Lol. One of the CQI changes mentioned is "the g10 around the liners is black instead of yellow." That is pure happenstance.

With layered g10 it can and will vary through the thickness. Spyderco isn't always going to get completely uniform pieces of g10 in regards to the lyering.

Sometimes the milling will land on a black layer.....sometimes the milling will land on a yellow layer.... sometimes it might even span both black and yellow.

Purely luck of the draw.
