Book on metallurgy and knifemaking by Larrin Thomas

#1

Post by The Mastiff »

I just saw that our own Dr.Larrin has gotten around to releasing the book we have been bugging him to write. I ordered mine from Amazon earlier today. In case anybody is interested it is titled:

Knife Engineering: Steel, Heat Treating, and Geometry by Dr. Larrin Thomas
https://www.amazon.com/Knife-Engineerin ... B08D4P9D95

It is a book that has interest to pretty much all us knifeknuts and steel junkies and should be very readable for even knuckleheads like me. Pick up a copy when you get a chance.

Thanks for putting in the time Larrin.

Thanks for telling us.
I would prefer an ebook version as the book is 1 kg / 2 pounds.

Thanks. Hopefully it becomes available on other platforms. Amazon US won’t send this item to Australia, and the Australian Amazon site doesn’t stock it.

Kindle or an e-reader edition would be good to have as a resource on phone and tablet, but I’d still like to have a paper copy.

It will be added to my personal library ASAP. We are very fortunate to have Brother "Larrin" as a fellow Spyderville citizen.

This was definitely disappointing as what I was reading was telling me that it should be possible to buy anywhere and that did not turn out to be the case. I am currently working on a separate publisher for areas outside of North America, Europe, and Japan.

I will get my son in LA to order it for me, as shipping to NZ is silly.

Thanks Larrin. :) Yeah, there’s some specific agreements with regard to local Australian book publishing which prevent some books being ordered from overseas, at least through the mainstream internet channels.

In the meantime, I guess I might see if a friend in the US can onship a copy to me, as I’m keen to read this.

Congratulations on the publication, by the way. All the work you’ve done has really served to raise the state of popular knowledge in the knife industry, as well as comprehensively dealing with many of those old chestnuts of questions that come up again and again. :)

I sure could purchase one for you and send it over to you (in Europe it is available on amazon and (converted) even only about 3 dollars more than in the US) - no problem.

Just pm me if you don´t find a US person to do so! :)

It's available on Amazon UK ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/Knife-Engineer ... 663&sr=8-1 ). Don't you Aussies have some special agreement on shipping from and to UK?

Well done Larrin! Now if the book was available also in German... ;) It's probably loaded with terms I'd have to figure out the translations for. Too much effort (I'm the king of lazyland), although I have no doubt it'd be worth it. I'm happy for the native speakers! :)
